The Grand Hotel Myeongdong

Opened in 2013, The Grand Hotel Myeongdong is a stylish and modern hotel that appeals to a variety of travelers who want to be in the center of the shopping district. The lobby shares a room with the breakfast area, somewhat partitioned off with glass walls. The lobby’s stylish lounge has cream and purple furniture and rugs. Brightly-colored large art pieces hang in glass enclosures on the walls. The breakfast area has a minimalist design with wooden floors, wooden tables, and light gray chairs. The only other public area where guests interact is the rooftop terrace, more accurately described as a charming open-air area with concrete walls. It has comfy outdoor chairs and couches, planted trees, and views of the city through windows.

The Grand Hotel Myeongdong is located in the heart of Myeongdong, a thriving business and shopping area of Seoul. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the market street of Myeongdong. The surrounding area is filled with plenty of dining options. The metro stop, that’s a three-minute walk away, makes it easy to reach places like Gyeongbokgung Palace (one hour and five-minute metro ride). North Seoul Tower is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. It’s an hour-drive to Gimpo International Airport. 

Room decor is modern and minimalist, and in upper-level rooms, there’s a trendy sleekness to the design. Rooms may be on the small side, but not overly so, especially for Seoul. All rooms have a color scheme heavy on grays, though there are some bits of color with blue, tan, or soft brown statement walls, in lovely artwork on the walls, or in some bed accents like safari-themed bed runners in some rooms. The furniture is modern in most rooms, though there’s a classy style to the Grand Family Room. All units come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges with free bottled water, safes, bathrobes, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms are outfitted with light gray tiles and white accents. They include shower/tub combos, eco-friendly toiletries made with green tea, and hairdryers.

The Grand Hotel Myeongdong offers the minimum of features. There’s no restaurant, gym, or bar on-site. A western breakfast with hot and cold items is available daily, but costs a fee. There’s a free happy hour on Fridays with wine, beverages, and snacks for guests. Business guests can use one fully-equipped meeting room, public computers and printer, and free Wi-Fi. A free laundry room is convenient for different types of travelers. Free coffee, tea, and chocolate milk are provided 24/7.
