Bottom Line

The two-pearl Hotel Alcantara’s best feature is its location in both the historic and Santa Cruz districts with many attractions within walking distance. Rooms are simple with wood flooring, a small amount of square footage, flat-screen TVs, and small bathrooms. Additionally, many guests remark on hearing noise from the front desk. A nightly flamenco/guitar show is offered in the hotel’s auditorium, but costs a fee, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout. A nice indoor courtyard with trees provides a great place to have the continental breakfast (for a fee); however, the food receives mixed reviews. The front desk is 24-hours and there are bicycle rentals.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hotel Alcantara

Scene

A simple value hotel with nightly entertainment

Although this budget hotel doesn’t have many extras, it does have some charm in the design and is extremely clean. Simple, colorful chairs decorate the common areas with classic tile on the walls and wood beams on the ceiling. Since it was the former service quarters of a 15th century home, historic arches and columns in the common areas add some character; small flamenco photos comprise almost all of the artwork. Lots of plants adorn the lobby as well as floor-to-ceiling windows, and an Andalusian courtyard provides a great space for breakfast. The hotel also has professional flamenco dancers and guitar players perform each night in the on-site auditorium, but it costs a fee. With a great location and attractions within easy walking distance, this value hotel is an ideal pick for budget-conscious guests that are willing to sacrifice some polish in exchange for location.

Location

Central location in Santa Cruz and historic district

Down a narrow pedestrian street in the Santa Cruz and historic district is the Hotel Alcantara. With an exceptional central location, shopping, cafes, bars, public transportation, and attractions are all within walking distance, including the Plaza Nueva, Alcazar, Giralda, and Seville Cathedral. Both the Seville Airport and train station are under a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Small, no-frills rooms

Rooms at the Hotel Alcantara are plain with white walls, but do have nice wood flooring and extra chairs. There is some color in the bed runners, pillows, and seating, but rooms are quite simple. A few touches are dated, including floral curtains and older bedside lights. Almost all the rooms are small, especially the individual rooms, and equally small bathrooms are attached. Superior Rooms though, have much more square footage and the addition of tan couches. Air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs are in each room, and lower level rooms have noise from the front desk and flamenco show. Small bathrooms include tiny showers, older green and gray tile, and Hotel Alcantara amenities. Adorned with wood or tile floors, there are pedestal sinks with little counter space and not much room to move around in. Rooms cover the essentials and may be tight for those with lots of luggage.

There are a few cozy places for guests to lounge including an Andalusian courtyard and the hotel offers bicycle rentals, free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour front desk, and concierge services. A flamenco and guitar show takes place in the evenings, for a fee.
