Bottom Line

The Golden Temple Villa is a small guesthouse located near the popular Pub Street -- a drinking and dining area -- and the Old Market of Siem Reap. For those who want to party, it's a good spot in a central location. Rooms here, while bright, are pretty small and threadbare though -- although they do have have small desks, tube TVs, safes, and mini-fridges, as well as tiny en-suite bathrooms. The hotel has a small spa and restaurant/bar, but no other facilities. There are some perks like free movie screenings and free welcome massages for those staying in Triple Rooms, but some feel it is overpriced for what you get. Similarly priced stays such as the Mother Home Boutique offer much larger rooms with more amenities and better facilities.

Golden Temple Villa

Scene

Small mid-range guesthouse with a garden entrance and lobby area filled with stone Buddha statues and busts

The Golden Temple Villa is more of a simple guesthouse than anything fancier, but its lobby area and entrance feel slightly more grand. There are Buddha statues and busts placed throughout the entrance, which is through a small tropical jungle garden. The check-in area is pretty basic, but the hotel has a second lobby/waiting area just off to the outside, which has colorful cushions and ceiling fans. The garden out front is tiny, but also full of Buddha statues, and even a small shrine-like area with a couple of hammocks. It's a pretty chilled out place, and the dimly lit restaurant/bar furthers this vibe, with soft cushions, hanging cloth lampshades, and an escape from the heat outside. The hotel seems popular with the younger crowd and those looking for a decent budget accommodation in a central location.

Location

Central location right near the Old Market and Pub Street in downtown Siem Reap

The Golden Temple Villa is located just a five-minute walk from the Old Market and the happening Pub Street in downtown Siem Reap. There are hundreds of restaurants, bars, and shops around here, plus the nearby Night Markets as well. It's a popular area, and Pub Street is a big party spot, probably more suited to the younger crowd and not as much for those who want early nights and escapes to the temples -- although the hotel is on a quiet side street well away from the action. It is about a 15- to 20-minute drive to both Angkor Wat and the airport. In terms of being centrally located, this is an excellent spot.

Rooms

Tiny rooms have basic TVs, but do provide DVD players and free Wi-Fi

The rooms at the Golden Temple Villa are quite small, especially the standard rooms, which really resemble shoe boxes. While the Standard Twin Rooms feature poster beds, that's about all they feature, and the Double Rooms are even smaller -- basically just the bed and little other space in which to maneuver. The rooms do have some tiny desks fit, though, along with basic tube TVs that have satellite channels and DVD players, and there is also a small safe box along with a mini-fridge with free water in each. Bathrooms are also very tiny, although they do have old bathtub/shower units with some soap and shampoo. At least the rooms have pleasant Khmer decor, with artsy cushions and bedspreads.

The Superior Rooms are a bit nicer, with some extra space, and the Doubles have large windows looking out over town. The Superior Twins have either larger room areas, or else small sitting areas outside. The Deluxe Rooms are identical, except that they offer larger beds. While the rooms are not impressive, they do come with free Wi-Fi and breakfast.

Small spa, plus a chilled out restaurant and bar

The Golden Temple Villa has few facilities. There is no fitness center or pool, although guests can use the pools of the sister properties of Golden Villa, one of which is just across the road. The hotel does have a small spa, and it also has a chilled out restaurant and bar, with soft cushions to sit on and low lighting; it serves up both western and Khmer food for lunch and dinner, as well as free breakfasts for guests. There are also free movies screened here for travelers at night. The hotel provides free bicycles for guests as well, along with free airport pickups.
