Bottom Line

Originally an individual hotel, Sara Sea Resort is now part of the Tropical Beach Resorts property comprised of Tropical Shores Beach Resort and Tropical Sun Resort. This 22-room mid-range hotel is less expensive than most of the nearby hotels, and while not directly on the beach, it is within walking distance of the sand. Suites, Specialty Rooms, and Studios all combine modern amenities with Floridian style and touches of luxury and comfort. While the resort does draw couples, there are plenty of families with children who tend to congregate at the outdoor pool. The hotel has barbecue facilities and lots of space for outdoor dining, including a tiki-style hut. There is no on-site restaurant or gym, and some rooms lack views.

Sara Sea Resort

Scene

Family-friendly hotel located near the beach

Sara Sea Resort is part of three resorts on the Tropical Beach Resorts property. The exteriors of buildings on the property are light beachy colors like coral, light blue, and yellow. The public walkways to each section of the hotel are covered in seashells and paths have designated picnic areas complete with grills. Located at the end of the property are dolphin statues greeting guests at the Sara Sea Resort pool; this rectangular-shaped pool is lined with blue- and coral-colored lounge chairs, and has a smoothly paved patio. Both pools on the property are gated and surrounded by tropical greenery and large palm trees. Sara Sea Resort was once considered the more adult-oriented portion of the property, but since the hotel's rebranding, all sections are family-friendly.

Location

Minutes from the beach, entertainment, and restaurants

The hotel is located a quarter of a block from Siesta Key Beach. There are plenty of nearby restaurants, including Captain Curt's Crab and Oyster Bar, and City Pizza, within a few minutes' walk. Guests seeking a cultural reprieve can drive about 20 to 30 minutes to reach the Asolo Repertory Theatre, Mote Marine Aquarium, or Ringling Museum of Art. The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is about 22 minutes away.

Rooms

Modern, beachy, and packed with the comforts of home

Suites, Specialty Rooms, and Studios all combine modern amenities (including full kitchens, flat-screen TVs and DVD players, and iPod docking stations) with Floridian style (like rattan and wicker) and touches of luxury and comfort, such as vases of fresh daises and Aveda bath products. Sealy pillow-topped beds with fluffy white duvets, and free Wi-Fi complete the comfortable setting. The only difference between Standard Rooms and suites is the size, and hence the price. None of the rooms here are beachfront, but most offer a lush, tropical garden view. Beware that some rooms have no view at all. All rooms are keyless entry, and come with in-room safes, energy-efficient recessed lighting, and large bathrooms with tubs.
