Tropical Sun Resort

Scene

Poolside lounging and tropical style

Tropical Sun Resort is part of three resorts on one property called Tropical Beach Resorts. Modern buildings with siding in coral, light blue, and yellow are set within nicely landscaped grounds with tropical plants and colorful flowers. Seashells cover the public walkways, which lead to cozy benches, picnic areas, and a tiki-style hut with table for group dining. There are places to grill food throughout the property, and guests can swim and lounge on blue and coral chairs at two different pools shaded by palm trees. The pools aren't enormous, and can get crowded. Indoors, the lobby is homey and provides free coffee, lemonade, and an expansive DVD library for guests' enjoyment.

The hotel is located a couple of minutes' walk from Siesta Key Beach. Guests can stock up on groceries at Crescent Beach Grocery, located a couple of minutes' walk away in the vicinity of several restaurants, including Captain Curt's and City Pizza. Olaf's ice cream is a 10-minute drive away, but worth the trip. Guests can explore the island by bicycle -- rentals are available at Siesta Sports Rentals, just a minute walk away. For culture, guests can drive about 25 minutes to reach Asolo Repertory Theatre and Ringling Museum of Art. The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is about a half-hour drive away.

Rooms

Apartment-style units with homey appeal and modern kitchens

Tropical Sun offers Designer Efficiency units with a little extra space, compact Studios, and Specialty Rooms with an open floor plan and whirlpool tub. Decor feels fresh and Floridian, with touches of wicker and rattan, pale tones of green and peach, and tile floors. All units have full kitchens with modern appliances, flat-screen TVs, and outdoor seating areas. Sealy pillow-topped beds with fluffy white duvets, DVD players, and iPod docking stations add to the overall home-like vibe. Most units overlook the tropical grounds - none are beachfront -- and all have free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have tile floors and shower/tub combos -- some with spacious whirlpool tubs. All units are keyless entry, and have safes and energy-efficient recessed lighting. Unfortunately, none of the rooms have a private outdoor space.
