Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

Scene

Striking and dramatically decorated chain hotel

The hollow core of this 27-story glass structure provides a dramatic setting for this reliable chain property. The reception desks are illuminated in the chain's signature green. Opposite are lime and orange leather armchairs with low tables, and the steel skeleton of the building's framework. Atrium 317 is a curved wood, back-lit bar surrounded by leather stools and chairs and low tables -- the expanses of glass windows allow for wonderful city views. The hotel has two restaurants: The Atrium Restaurant, with its thick, dramatic columns and big yolk-yellow pendant lights, and Xin Cuisine, a darker, more sophisticated space with red-silk drum lights and delicate wooden screens. Rooms are reached via a cylindrical elevator that's a hit with children. The rooftop pool is surrounded by a large blue stone and slatted wood terrace, with black lounge chairs and one massive wall painted deep purple. From here, guests can take in excellent city views.

Rooms with simple chain-hotel decor, sound systems, and city or river views

The 512 rooms at the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium reflect an unsurprising chain-hotel aesthetic with orange-and-gray patterned rugs and matte gray walls. Wood borders the tufted fabric headboards, and the bedside tables and cabinets have a honey-oak hue. Windows have blackout drapes and sheers. The beds, on fabric-covered platforms, are made up in white linens with orange bed runners. A pillow menu is offered. Other amenities include individual climate controls, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, sound systems, and electrical adapters and chargers. There are also speaker phones, clock radios, and irons and ironing boards. The hotel provides robes, slippers, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, and minibars. Bathrooms are functional but a bit bland, with beige tile and terra-cotta accents, wall-spanning mirrors, and recessed lights. Shower/tub combos have curtains and power showerhead attachments.
