La Piscine Art Hotel

La Piscine Art Hotel is a beautiful hotel, artfully decorated with paintings, murals, and handmade rugs. Common areas are all visually interesting, with a variety of media and styles coming together for an elegant design. In the lobby, neutral-toned walls and furnishings are the backdrop for embellishments from antique cabinets with blue willow plates, to paintings of haunting faces and bright-red butterflies flitting across a black wall. The Crazy Cow restaurant pairs whimsical cartoon cows with lifelike gulls coasting across the cloudy ceiling. 

Outside, a beautiful terrace with padded wicker furniture, chandeliers, and airy white curtains overlooks the pool area, and is embellished with floral paintings in a variety of styles. Music is often playing around the hotel, which some guests find relaxing, but others wish for a quieter environment. The adult-only policy and tourist-friendly town makes this hotel a popular pick with couples looking for a peaceful getaway. La Piscine Art Hotel is near the major city on the island of Skiathos, just off Greece’s mainland in the Aegean Sea. It is in a quiet area near supermarkets and hotels, within a 10-minute walk of the touristy areas of Skiathos Town and the many restaurants and sites there. Papadiamanti Street hosts an active club scene at night, and is a six-minute walk from the hotel. It is an eight-minute walk to Agios Nikolaos Church, where guests can climb the tower and enjoy a beautiful view of the town and bay. There’s an open-air cinema a nine-minute walk from the hotel. It is a 15-minute walk, or a four-minute drive, to Megali Ammos Beach, a nice spot with loungers and umbrellas. A local bus stops two minutes from the hotel, for those without a car. The port in Skiathos Town is a nine-minute walk from the hotel, and Skiathos Airport is a seven-minute drive away. 

Standard rooms are beautiful and comfortable, starting at 215 square feet (20 square meters). The artistic flair of the hotel continues into rooms with photographic art and more handmade rugs against a neutral background. Round or traditional rectangular beds have CocoMat mattresses and linens, plus extra pillows for a good night’s sleep. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, minibar, free Wi-Fi, and a safe, but no coffeemaker. Upgraded rooms offer a sitting area with sleeper sofas for one or two extra guests, a king-size bed, more space with nicer furnishings, and a CD and DVD player. 

Some rooms have shared or private balconies, as well. Guests do not have control of air-conditioning, and they must call the front desk to have it activated upon returning to the room. Bathrooms are appealing and modern, equipped with a glass cabin shower and rainfall showerhead. Hairdryers, robes, and slippers are provided, and free toiletries include soap, shower gel, two-in-one shampoo and conditioner, and lotion. 

Though limited, the amenities offered here are of a good quality. The lovely pool is surrounded by palm trees and potted plants, and it has plenty of sunbeds and padded loungers under umbrellas all around. The bar serves cocktails and snacks poolside, at a reasonable price. The free breakfast buffet is sumptuous and offers a wide variety of choice. Half-board dining is available at Crazy Cow restaurant, which serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine made from organic ingredients. A Wine Bar in the lobby has quality offerings, both by the glass and by the bottle. A TV lounge and library are available in the lobby. Free Wi-Fi is available everywhere in the hotel, and guests generally find the connection reliable.
