Bottom Line

The 53-room El Pueblo Inn is a budget-friendly mid-range hotel tucked in Sonoma on the road to San Francisco, with 24-hour front desk service, lush garden courtyards, a breakfast buffet room, a fitness area, a heated 24-hour pool, and a hot tub. Cozy, traditionally furnished rooms come with mini-fridges, fireplaces, and patios, and overlook the gardens. Flat-screen TVs are in some rooms, but others still have tube-style TVs and outdated decor. Guests might also want to check out the more modern -- but pricier -- MacArthur Place Sonoma’s Historic Inn & Spa.

El Pueblo Inn

Scene

Mid-range Sonoma motel with lush courtyards, a breakfast room, an outdoor pool and gym

The El Pueblo Inn is a budget-friendly hotel with mid-range amenities right outside downtown Sonoma. Many travelers use this roadside inn as a stopping point en-route to San Francisco or Napa. Tall pine ceilings, a stone-faced fireplace and comfortable furniture in the lobby create a lodge atmosphere. It’s the serene overgrown gardens -- with dirt pathways, patio seating, lawns, and fountains -- that set the El Pueblo Inn apart. Trees shade the heated 24-hour pool that has a deck with lounge chairs and a wheelchair lift. There’s also a hot tub and a pavilion with wooden patio seating, and a small fitness room open 24-hours a day with a handful of cardio equipment, towels, and a water cooler.

The charming breakfast room has pitched pinewood ceilings and large windows that overlook the gardens. There’s a buffet counter, where breakfast is served. The inn cultivates quiet, and guests must sign agreements promising not to make noise.
