Bottom Line

Few if any hotels in Sorrento offer more spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples than the Belair, which is built right into the side of a cliff about a half-mile from the Cathedral of Sorrento and was recently recognized as a 5-star hotel. Hotel Belair is not especially upscale, but it does have the elegant feel of an Italian property of yesteryear. Rooms have all been renovated, but nearly all have balconies with gulf views. Surrounded by landscaped gardens, the outdoor infinity pool and sun terrace offer up more gulf views. The restaurant serves fairly typical Mediterranean and Sorrentine cuisine and offers outdoor dining. Guests can enjoy traditional dishes creatively revised by our Chef at the Calypso à la carte Restaurant, a unique location for its romantic terrace and refined interiors. To start the evening with an aperitivo with a view there is the wonderful Roof Bar Oblivion with cocktails and finger food selections. The offer of services is enriched by a small gym with a view of Vesuvius and a private promenade to access the beaches of the old fishing village of Marina Grande. Guests also have access to the spa facilities (hot tub, steam bath, massage services, and beauty treatments) at a nearby sister hotel.

Hotel Belair

Scene

Cliffside setting with oases of green and blue; property has retro feel

This 5-star hotel is housed in a three-floor tiered Mediterranean-style building of light yellow and white, the Belair has a cliffside location that showcases views of the Gulf of Naples from its pool deck, restaurant terrace, and many of its rooms. The outdoor pool gets a lot of direct sunlight, so it produces a sparkling blue color for a dramatic effect. The surrounding gardens provide shelter, shade, and pleasant seating. One area on the cliffside has a fresco painted on the rock.

Most of the rooms are rather simple in their decor, but the lobby and reception have an Old World feel, with chandeliers, a white piano, pale blue sofas, artwork, and antique cabinets. The Belair has an overall style that harkens back to its heyday in the 1950s and ‘60s. Some may find it evocative of La Dolce Vita-era Italy, while others may find the aesthetic a bit dated. The owners are planning updates.**The 49 rooms & suites of the Hotel Belair were renovated, all different and with a sea view, meet every need and offer the best for each Guest. They are distinguished by high-level facilities, different sizes, equipped balconies or terraces.
