Village Camping Santa Fortunata Campogaio

This large campsite is surrounded by beautiful nature and offers great views of the Mediterranean Sea and Mount Vesuvius. Tents, bungalows, chalets, and mobile homes are well spaced on the extensive grounds filled with lush trees, plants, and well-trimmed greenery. Peak summer season can be noisy with live entertainment and large groups of families, but for the most part, the area has a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The various facilities are simple and not upscale in any sense; most buildings show signs of wear and tear, but are decently maintained. The restaurant has stunning views thanks to panoramic windows, though it’s a casual setting with plastic and wooden tables and chairs. Most guests are budget travelers looking for a rustic getaway, from backpackers to couples to families. 

Villaggio Santa Fortunata Campogaio is located in a gorgeous, secluded location just six minutes by car from Sorrento’s city center, Piazza Tasso, and the train station. There’s not much in the way of dining options within walking distance, which makes the property’s shuttle convenient -- even though it only runs for limited hours. It might be easier to rent a car or scooter from the campsite for day trips. Some guests walk to the center from here in about 20 to 25 minutes, though the journey back is uphill. Pompeii is around a 45-minute drive, while Mount Vesuvius can be reached in about an hour and 20 minutes by car. The property is a great base for exploring the beautiful villages of the Amalfi Coast: Positano is a 40-minute drive away, Amalfi can be reached in a bit over an hour, and Ravello is about an hour-and-a-half away. Naples Airport is about an hour away.

The Villaggio Santa Fortunata offers various accommodations, including campsites for tents and mobile homes, as well as furnished bungalows, chalets, and mini-chalets. Bungalows and chalets are simple and clean, though worn and dated. There’s not much in terms of decor beyond the wood or wood-paneled walls, wooden furniture, and striped orange or green bedding. All room types are very compact, especially those with a bed and bunk beds. Bungalows and chalets are equipped with kitchenettes with mini-fridges, two-burner stoves, and sinks, but lack air-conditioning, TVs, or tea/coffee facilities. Each comes with an outdoor patio furnished with a table and chairs or benches. Wi-Fi incurs a fee, and guests complain of patchy service. Guests have also complained of bothersome noise from neighbors and nightly entertainment. En-suite bathrooms are tiny and consist of toilets, sinks, and showers; some have dated hairdryers attached to the wall. Toiletries are not provided, while towels are charged extra. Cabin tents and some of the mini-chalets do not have en-suite bathrooms. Public bathrooms are clean and equipped with many sinks, toilets, and showers -- but showers don’t have curtains or doors. 

For a campsite, Villaggio Santa Fortunata Campogaio offers a large number of amenities, the highlight of which is access to a private rocky beach area where guests can swim in the sea. During the summer, there are organized games and a small bar with drinks and ice cream. The property also has a pool and a small kids' pool, but guests should note that swimming caps are mandatory.

As for dining, a basic breakfast is offered in the mornings for an extra fee -- or included in some rates. The restaurant has a relaxed setting and serves local dishes, including Neapolitan pizza. For those who wish to use the in-room kitchenettes, there’s a small convenience store on-site. 

For families, there’s an outdoor playground as well as entertainment and events during the summer, though some note that these can be noisy, especially late night shows or dances. Other features include a public computer and Wi-Fi, both for a fee. Reports of spotty Wi-Fi have been made. A coin-operated laundry room is available. The property operates a shuttle service into town, and a number of excursions can be booked on-site, including boat trips to Capri that depart directly from the private beach area.
