The Landing Resort & Spa

The Landing Resort & Spa is a quiet luxury property that mainly appeals to couples. Its December 2013 opening was marked by a star-studded event that drew such celebrities as Heidi Klum and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Surrounded by pine trees and desert landscaping, the three-floor property features brown siding and exposed stonework. A lakeside road -- with bicycle riders and people strolling by -- runs in front of the hotel. The lobby has a luxe hunting lodge atmosphere thanks to exposed pinewood beams, dark blue wall molding, velvet blue furniture, and a stone fireplace. Chilled, flavored water is on hand by the two intimate front desks, where guests are typically greeted by friendly staff with glasses of Champagne. Given this atmosphere, it makes sense that the resort is a popular wedding venue with ample indoor and outdoor event space.

Sitting on the border of Nevada and California, the resort is beside the Stateline casinos and also across the street from Lake Tahoe and a private beach. The front desk provides free passes to the beach, which is covered under the resort fee. The center of Heavenly Village and the Heavenly gondola are about a 15-minute walk away, or alternately, guests can take the free shuttle operated by the hotel. The Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is a two-minute drive away. Concerts and events at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's are five minutes on foot. Water-sports enthusiasts can find parasailing, jet skis, and boat rentals at the marina, which is a 17-minute drive away. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is over an hour by car. 

The hotel's 77 rooms feature stylish lodge decor with a modern twist. Rooms have black carved headboards, granite counters, plaid carpeting, and leather club chairs that face stone fireplaces. Renovations were completed in 2013, so furnishings feel new. All rooms have private balconies or patios, some of which offer beautiful lake views. Garden King and Superior Rooms are the smallest options, while the Three-Bedroom Suite is the largest and has two bathrooms, three gas fireplaces, and a full kitchen. Premium Rooms have wet bars with mini-fridges, while the Premium Suite offers a sitting area. All rooms have 55-inch flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, safes, irons/ironing boards, and bathrobes and slippers. Luxurious bathrooms are clad in stylish tiles and have heated floors and toilet seats, separate walk-in showers and bathtubs (some with whirlpool tubs), as well as L'Occitane toiletries. ADA accessible rooms with roll-in showers are available. 

The Landing Resort & Spa offers elegantly designed facilities that overlook the lake, including patios with fire pits and a rooftop terrace that can hold up to 350 people. Other event spaces in this popular wedding venue include a ballroom and boardroom. A terrace provides lake views at Jimmy’s Restaurant, which serves Greek and Californian fare in an elegant dining room with tufted booth seating, fireplaces, and a stunning onyx bar with 250 wine labels, but some guests complain of slow service. There's a lovely outdoor pool and hot tub, but they unfortunately face the parking lot. The surrounding sundeck is lined with padded lounge chairs and also offers a fire pit, plus cold water and magazines are on hand. The four-room Landing Spa is small, but clean and charming with a sauna, steam room, and hair salon. The fitness center is also small, but equipped with a large flat-screen TV, modern cardio equipment, and free weights. There's a mandatory resort fee that covers many of these facilities including the fitness center and pool, as well as valet parking, Wi-Fi, and beach passes to the neighboring beach. There's also a free shuttle that goes to Heavenly Village.
