Motel L Hammarby Sjostad

Motel L is not a motel at all, but a large hotel occupying a five-story glass-fronted corner building just outside of Stockholm's city center. The lobby area is spacious, and its large floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of natural sunlight. Most of the lobby is a large restaurant and cafe area decked out with hardwood floors, boxy leather armchairs with small tables, and leather sofas running along one wall. The hanging lamps, colorful wall murals, and big poufs in red and hot pink add to the vibrant decor. Breakfast is served here, and there's usually jazz music piped through the sound system. This eco-friendly property uses energy efficient technologies such as LED lighting throughout the hotel to minimize environmental impact. Most guests staying here are leisure travelers traveling together as families, couples, or friends.

Motel L is located in the Hammarby Sjostad district of Stockholm, a short tram ride from the city center. A tram stop (Martensdal) is located just outside the hotel. Next door is a large supermarket, and located in the vicinity of the hotel are shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. The closest subway station is at Gullmarsplan, a short walk away.

There are two room types on offer at Motel L. The Double Rooms are small, but space is used in a smart, efficient way. The furniture is simple and kept to a minimum, with in-built shelves on one side of the beds and small enclosed wardrobes on the other, plus desks and easy chairs. The Family Rooms are slightly larger and have two bunk beds that fold down from the wall or sofa beds instead of bunk beds. The floors are covered in colorful carpets, and wall murals in pink, orange, and black behind the beds are a fun accent. All the rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The bathrooms are compact, accented with chic wall murals, and featuring vessel sinks, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, hairdryers, and free toiletries. 

Motel L has only a few extra features on offer. Breakfast is served for a reasonable fee in the large restaurant space in the lobby and is made up of a cold continental buffet. Food and drinks can also be ordered here in the evenings or in the attached bar. There's also a small shop selling snacks and drinks. The on-site gym is bright and cheerful, equipped with two treadmills, one elliptical machine, one stationary bicycle, and a weight-training machine. Other extras include free tea and coffee in the lobby, and free Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel. On-site parking is available for an extra fee.
