Bottom Line

Upper House is a luxury hotel that opened in September 2013 on the top floors of the glass-fronted Gothia Towers, a Gothenburg landmark. The 49 contemporary-style guest rooms are decked out in designer furniture and have large windows offering scenic views over the city. The hotel's most impressive feature is the glass-bottomed outdoor swimming pool protruding from the 19th floor. The bright and modern restaurant and lounge bar on the 25th floor also offer spectacular views. Other features include the hotel's two indoor pools, and guests have free access to the luxury spa and hamam with steam baths, while a variety of spa treatments are available (for a fee). Rates here are pricey and reflect the high-end design atmosphere. The luxury Elite Plaza Hotel located in the center of town in a lovely neo-classical building is a cheaper alternative in comparison.

Upper House

Scene

Exclusive and stylish property with contemporary decor

Upper House occupies the top five floors of the iconic 30-story Gothia Towers, a modern, glass-fronted building that houses another hotel. The building is part of a complex that includes the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre. Guests have to negotiate the large, busy conference center to reach the hotel's reception area. The lobby area is painted a soothing, clinical white, and the atrium and large windows let in a lot of natural light while offering scenic views of the cityscape below. The space is stylish and minimalist, with contemporary-style lamps and black armchairs, white reception counters, light-beige tiled floors, and a brown-colored carpet in the seating area. Upper House is popular with discerning travelers mostly traveling as couples.

The guest rooms at Upper House are exceptionally spacious, starting at 333 square feet for the Superior Rooms.
