Bottom Line

The York by Swiss-Belhotel is centrally located, close to many main attractions, public transportation, and Sydney’s Central Business District. The hotel is well suited for business travelers, but is especially ideal for extended stays and families. All 150 apartment-style rooms are spacious and fully equipped with nice “home away from home” amenities, such as kitchens, washers and dryers, separate baths and showers, dining and lounge areas, Internet access, and open-air balconies (though not all afford good views of the city). While all units are clean and comfortable, some are in much better condition than others, with newer furnishings and appliances, and more stylish decor. The older rooms feel basic and outdated. On-site, there’s a little garden, outdoor heated pool, and a Japanese noodle bar.

Oyster Hotel Review

The York by Swiss-Belhotel

Location

In the Central Business District, near The Rocks and Darling Harbor

The York by Swiss-Belhotel is located in the Central Business District, just south of the Rocks and to the northwest of the waterfront Darling Harbor entertainment area (home to the Sydney Aquarium, Harbourside Shopping Centre, and other attractions).

Sydney, the site of the first British colony in Australia, was established on January 26, 1788 -- a date that's still celebrated with festivities all over the country. Home to over four million people, the city has grown to become one of the most cosmopolitan places in the world. The state capital of New South Wales, it jumped into the international spotlight in 2000 when it hosted the Olympics. While it is mentioned alongside other major cities like London, Paris and New York, its vibe differs from the usual hustle and bustle of those metropolises. Sydney usually receives 300 sunny days a year, and the lifestyle is more slow-paced; though the people are classy and cultured, they're also laid-back.

From the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, to the fun Bondi Beach and Queen Victoria Building, Sydney is rich in historic landmarks, art and cultural institutions, wildlife and nature, gastronomic hubs, shopping centers and a vibrant nightlife scene.

  • 5-minute walk to Sydney Harbour
  • 8-minute walk to Museum of Contemporary Art
  • 8-minute walk to The Rocks
  • 9-minute walk to Queen Victoria Building
  • 9-minute walk to Circular Quay
  • 11-minute walk to Pitt Street Mall
  • 11-minute walk to Sydney Aquarium
  • 4-minute drive to Hyde Park
  • 6-minute drive to Sydney’s central business district
  • 6-minute drive to Powerhouse Museum
  • 7-minute drive to Royal Botanic Gardens
  • 8-minute drive to Darling Harbour
  • 8-minute drive to Harbour Bridge
  • 11-minute drive to Sydney Opera House
  • 17-minute drive to Bondi Beach
  • 17-minute drive to Taronga Zoo
  • 21-minute drive to Sydney Airport
  • 23-minute drive to Manly
