Bottom Line

The 357-apartment Family Garden Compostela Beach is a mid-range property located a three-minute walk from Las Vistas, the most popular beach in Los Cristianos. The one- and two-bedroom apartments are bright and spacious, outfitted with kitchenettes, living areas, and balconies (some shared), but they lack air-conditioning. There are two heated pools, including one for kids, a pool bar, and plenty of sun loungers. Kids are well-catered for with a playground, kids' club, and plenty of activities. All-inclusive packages are available for the large buffet restaurant, but it serves mediocre and repetitive food; plenty of bars, restaurants, and a large shopping mall are within a short walk, though. Beware of extra fees for Wi-Fi, additional fans, and in-room safes. The nearby Green Garden Resort & Suites has better all-inclusive perks, but it's pricer and lacks the beach location.

Hotel Coral Compostela Beach

Scene

Family-friendly hotel by the beach

The Family Garden Compostela Beach Resort is true to its name, offering a kid-friendly environment just across from a beautiful stretch of beach. Sadly, all that salty air and sun is quite aging and there are wear and tear throughout. Still, the overall look is cheerful and bright, with lots of modern wood floors, whitewashed walls, potted plants and palm trees, and pops of citrus colors -- orange, yellow, and green -- in the restaurant, rooms, and lobby. The resort's best features, however, are outside: Both pools (one for adults and another for kids) are large and heated, with a surrounding pool deck that's enormous and packed with loungers. While certainly geared more toward families, the apartment complex is still suitable for low-key couples looking for easy beach access.

Location

Excellent beach location surrounded by bars, restaurants, and shops

The resort's position just across the street from popular Playa de Las Vistas is made even better by the sheer volume of great bars and restaurants on the doorstep. It's also just a four-minute walk to the high-end Centro Comercial Safari shopping mall. The hotel is situated between the resort areas of Los Cristianos and Playa de la Americas, giving it easy access to both. Playa de las Americas is the island's nightlife capital and about a 15-minute walk, but for late-night journeys, cabs are recommended. Because of the bustling location, there are plenty of nearby transport options, including a central bus station and the Los Cristianos harbour where travelers can catch a ferry to neighboring island, Gomera, or go on a fishing trip. The 18-hole golf course Las Americas and the Asian-themed water park Siam Park are just a five-minute drive away. The Tenerife South Airport can be reached in 15 minutes by car.

Rooms

Bright, spacious apartments with kitchenettes

All the apartments are bright and spacious with white-tile floors, basic wooden furniture, pastel-green accent walls and curtains, and brightly colored soft furnishings. Large photos of lemons and oranges also hang on the walls, adding to the cheerful vibe. Rooms have separate living rooms with ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, a double sofa bed, and dining table with two chairs. Adjacent to the living areas are kitchenettes with mini-fridges, microwaves, toasters, kettles, two-burner stovetops; all necessary cookware and dishware are also provided. Bedrooms have two twin beds pushed together. Bathrooms can be small and lack toiletries, but they're clean and equipped with showers. Apartments have either a furnished terrace or balcony, but those facing the street can be noisy. Guests have also complained about the lack of air-conditioning being an issue. Room extras such as safes, Wi-Fi, and additional fans require a fee.

Features

Two heated pools (one for kids), beach access, and restaurant

This mid-range hotel has several child-focused spaces and activities that parents may struggle to get them to leave. When on-site, most guests hang around the huge and pristine pool deck outfitted with two heated mosaic-tiled pools -- one for adults and one for kids. There are plenty of metal loungers and a smattering of umbrellas, plus an entertainment team is on hand to encourage guests to play games or participate in aqua fitness classes. Additionally, a playground, game area with billiards and foosball, and quality kids' club with separate catering for different age groups are available.

Dining is limited to a snack bar and the resort's main buffet restaurant, which gets mixed reviews from guests on all-inclusive stays. Self-catering guests tend to have a more positive experience ordering from the a la carte menu. Other self-catering facilities on-site are a grocery store and laundry room.
