Bottom Line

This quiet all-suites property draws couples and families who want an easy vacation in Tenerife sans the crowds. There are no beaches within walking distance, but the property offers a wide array of on-site amenities, including a wonderful spa, three pools (one for kids), two restaurants, and a fantastic fitness center. Suites are spacious and cozy, and all feature kitchenettes and balconies, some with panoramic ocean views. The largest ones can sleep up to five guests. Free shuttle service to Puerto de la Cruz makes it easy to explore the area -- but note that some rooms are in need of an update and that most all-inclusive and full board guests have found the lunch options limited.

Oyster Hotel Review

A quiet seaside property offering a wide range of on-site amenities

Housed in a large white and blue building with balconies covering its façade, the hotel looks at first glance like any other seaside resort. Although some may find it somewhat dated, the overall cozy decor and homey touches make La Quinta Park Suites less sterile than many other properties in Tenerife. The lobby has a funky (yet not necessarily unpleasant) mix of cottage-style and generic decor -- but mirrored and marble surfaces make the space feel a little bit odd and old-fashioned. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows bring the lush outdoors in.

The building’s curved shape, location atop a cliff, and large windows help make the most of the unobstructed ocean views, with many common space and suites offering striking vistas of the Atlantic. The property is family-friendly but mostly quiet, with manicured gardens overlooking the ocean, and a serene vibe harder to find in the southern part of the island. There are no beaches within walking distance, but the hotel offers a wide array of amenities to help guests stay entertained on-site.

In a seaside community a short drive from beaches and popular Puerto de la Cruz

The property is located in La Quinta, a quiet seaside community in Santa Ursula. There are few restaurants, bars and shops in the area, but Puerto de la Cruz is a 10-minute drive away and the hotel offers free shuttle service to the center of the town daily. The nearest beaches -- Los Patos and Santa Ana (also known as Playa del Ancón) -- have black volcanic sand typical of Tenerife and can be reached by car in about 10 minutes. They’re both down dozens of steps in a secluded spot between two small towns, which means fewer tourists venture out there. Tenerife Norte airport is a 20-minute drive away.

Spacious suites with kitchenettes and balconies, many with panoramic ocean views

There are 209 units here, all Junior Suites with fully equipped kitchenettes and balconies; the Junior Suite Panoramic Deluxe and Junior Suite Vista Mar have separate bedrooms. The smallest room, the Junior Suite Standard, features a queen bed and a double sofa bed; the largest, the Junior Suite Two Bedrooms, has a queen bed in the master bedroom, a twin bed in a separate room, and a double sofa bed in the living area (it sleeps up to five). Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and safes, but free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby and there have been complaints of spotty service. Bathrooms are clean but average, with shower/tub combos and basic toiletries in small packets. Many rooms have been renovated and feature cute beachy decor with crisp white linens, dark pink bed runners and pillows, sofas with pale blue Vichy upholstering, and laminate floors. Others, however, are showing their age. For the best views, guests may want to upgrade to a Panoramic View unit.

A great spa, three pools, a wonderful fitness center, and two restaurants

Along with the fitness center -- which features modern equipment, saunas, and group classes (including Pilates, yoga, spinning and zumba) -- the spa is the highlight here. It offers a great hydrotherapy area, an indoor pool, and treatment cabins, some for couples. The three pools -- two large ones and a smaller one for kids -- are located in the back part of the property and offer panoramic ocean views. The hotel offers two restaurants, including a buffet and a poolside cafe with outdoor seating. Food is decent in both of them, but many all-inclusive and full board guests have complained about limited options for lunch. Freebies include Wi-Fi in the lobby, and shuttle to Puerto de la Cruz daily. Squash and tennis courts, and mini-golf are all available on-site.
