Bottom Line

The 64-room NH Tenerife is a mid-range hotel located right in the heart of Santa Cruz. Rooms have generic contemporary decor, free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, and minibars. The property is popular with business travelers, and features three well-equipped meeting rooms, and catering services for corporate events. The rooftop terrace is a pleasant spot for a quiet afternoon, and the restaurant serves a great breakfast buffet as well as Spanish cuisine for dinner. Small bites and room service area available throughout the day. The NH Tenerife is a solid option for visitors in town for work, but leisure guests may prefer the Hotel Taburiente, which has similarly styled rooms and a rooftop pool.

NH Tenerife

Scene

Contemporary business hotel with a pleasant rooftop terrace and generic interiors

Both the exterior and the lobby at the NH Tenerife look like any other urban mid-range business hotel. The facade is plain with clean lines, and though there is nothing particularly exciting about the interiors, the spaces are well-presented. The generic dark wood furniture in the lobby feels comfortably familiar, while the adjacent restaurant's burnt orange accents and modern art on the walls add some style. The most appealing of all public areas at the NH is the rooftop terrace, which features a few loungers and scenic city views. Most guests here are business travelers drawn by the hotel’s competitive rates, comfortable rooms, and meeting spaces, but the hotel’s location right in the heart of Santa Cruz and near the cruise harbor is convenient for couples and families as well.

Location

Central location within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and attractions

The hotel has a well-positioned location on the corner of two narrow streets in central Santa Cruz. The area is known for its many tapas bars and small local shops, and there are a few lively (and sometimes loud) bars popular with locals on weekends nearby. Castillo Street, one of Santa Cruz’s main shopping areas, is just a five-minute walk from the hotel, and the harbor where large cruise ships dock is less than a five-minute drive away. Major attractions, including the Church of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the Museum of Nature and Man, and Plaza de Espana are all within a five-minute walk of the hotel. Other famous sights, such as the Auditorium and the Palmetum can be reached by public transport in about 15 minutes. There is a streetcar stop a block away. The airport is 25 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Contemporary, albeit generic, rooms with free Wi-Fi and minibars

The NH Tenerife has 64 contemporary, if a bit generic, rooms featuring a neutral-tone color scheme with pops of red. Decor includes laminate floors, streamlined dark wood furniture, and red blankets atop white bed linens. Gray accent walls and metal benches with black cushions add a touch of style, but gray-and-black striped bedskirts are a tad dated. All of the rooms have air-conditioning, as well as free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Superior Rooms are larger and come with a few extras, including additional toiletries, Nespresso machines, robes, and slippers. Junior Suites have larger TVs, jetted tubs, and sound systems.

Average bathrooms have shower/tub combos, dark wood cabinets, heated towel racks, toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. A majority of units have a frosted glass window overlooking the bedroom, which can be an issue when sharing a room, as the light may wake up the other guest. Most rooms have street views, which may get noise from the nearby bars, while other rooms overlook an unappealing courtyard and the hotel’s ventilation system.

Features

Restaurant, rooftop terrace, meeting space, and indoor parking

The hotel's restaurant serves a varied breakfast buffet every morning, including continental options and egg dishes on request. At night the Spanish restaurant serves dinner, but only snacks and room service are available during the day. The hotel lacks a full fitness center, but there are two cardio machines and one piece of strength-training equipment in a shaded area on the rooftop terrace. The deck also offers several loungers and city views, but no bar service. For business travelers, there are three meeting rooms with audiovisual equipment and catering service. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Indoor parking is available for a fee, but the garage lift is small and those traveling in large cars may find it excessively tight.
