Wellness is a theme throughout the hotel, from the restaurant which serves free breakfast and some vegetarian dishes, to the large spa offering all kinds of massage treatments, hydrotherapy, and thalassotherapy. In addition to the indoor pools, a large outdoor pool is set in pretty grounds with mature palm trees, flowers, and cacti. The 91 rooms are large and contemporary, with cheerful, calming decor, as well as flat-screen TVs, kitchenettes, and balconies. Guests looking for a more child-friendly hotel might want to look at the H10 Conquistador, which also has a generous spa.
Scene
Health-centric hotel that attracts guests looking to be detoxed and revitalized
The OCEANO Hotel attracts crowds of singletons and couples looking to be detoxed, revitalized, and sent back into the world glowing with health. Architecturally, the hotel is a mixed bag, veering between the dated and the contemporary in about as much time as it takes to step from one room into the next. While one half of the hotel’s lobby is decorated with a pink-granite floor, topped with white bucket chairs and round, dark-wood coffee tables, the other half has the same decor over walnut wood flooring and light-blue circle rugs, and yet feels completely different. Outside is a large, rectangular pool set in a lush green garden with mature palm trees and views of the Atlantic Ocean. Earth tones throughout the property create a soothing backdrop that's ideal for a wellness getaway.
Location
By the coast in Punta del Hidalgo, far from the rowdy tourist crowds
The hotel is set near the coast in the town of Punta del Hidalgo, a sleepy town that’s far from Tenerife’s tourist track. It’s a 20-minute walk to the nearest beach, or three minutes by car. Behind the hotel is the Anaga Rural Park, offering excellent hiking opportunities. While there are a few shops and restaurants in Punta del Hidalgo, the nearest large city is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a 40-minute drive away. Expect a transfer time of between 25 and 30 minutes by car to Tenerife Norte Airport.
Rooms
Variety of bright and well-decorated rooms with sea-view balconies
The hotel has a plethora of different rooms, varying in size, shape, and amenities. What unites the differing rooms is their bright and modern decor that's simultaneously cheerful and soothing; natural light hits the whitewashed walls, fun splashes of color are found in striped bed runners and curtains, and furniture is a mix of white and dark wood. All rooms feature sea-view balconies, but some are tiny French-style balconies with no space for chairs. Each room has a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, and bathrobes.Single Rooms are available for lone health-seekers, using the space freed up by the smaller bed to fit a sofa and coffee table, as well as the standard desk and chair. Also in every room is a small kitchenette with a two-burner stove, kettle, and mini-fridge, while larger rooms add a dining table and chairs. Design Apartments have two bedrooms and an open-plan living area. By and large, bathrooms are dated, with floors and walls covered in the same pink granite that appears downstairs. They have shower stalls, bidets, hairdryers, and free toiletries. Design rooms have more modern tiling and fixtures.
Features
A quality list of amenities intended to promote guests’ well-being
The emphasis at the OCEANO Hotel is very much on getting their guests to leave healthier than they arrived. The well-reviewed restaurant serves health-conscious food -- both vegetarian and non-vegetarian -- and has a special menu designed to work in tandem with their thalassotherapy program. All rates include a buffet breakfast. There is another restaurant exclusively for those who have elected to follow the F. X. Mayr therapy course, which centers around intestinal health, and requires devotees to follow a very specific diet. The hotel’s spa offers a range of wellness therapies including Shiatsu and Ayurvedic massage, as well as a sauna and Turkish bath, and a hydrotherapy pool with underwater exercise machines and a waterfall. A tiny gym only has a few cardio and weight-training machines and free weights, which is surprising for a health-centered property. Additionally, the hotel can organize yoga and meditation sessions. Outside, a large lap pool is set in a pretty garden overlooking the ocean. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
