Sunset View Club by Diamond Resorts

With thick, whitewashed walls, red-clay roof tiles, picture-perfect domes painted a bright aquamarine, and mature olive trees, the Sunset View Club looks like a traditional Tenerife village centered around a sunny courtyard with a large pool and a good number of loungers shaded by straw umbrellas. The hotel’s tiny lobby hasn’t had the same level of care and attention lavished upon it, but the restaurant is a pleasant space blending modern pleather dining chairs in shades of red and chocolate with terra-cotta tiles and varnished roof beams. The Sunset View Club attracts mostly low-key couples who want a quiet property and the option to cook for themselves.

The Sunset View Club is located in the sleepy residential town of Oasis del Sur, five minutes’ walk from the shingle beach at Playa San Blas. Unfortunately, there's no sandy beach within walking distance. Across the street from the hotel is a small shopping strip with a few bars and several restaurants, but guests looking for more hustle and bustle will have to drive 12 minutes into Los Abrigos. That said, the resort is well-located for guests looking to hit up the fairway, as it is a 10-minute walk from the 18-hole San Andres Golf del Sur course, which abuts the Marina San Miguel course. Expect a 10-minute transfer to and from the nearby Tenerife South Airport.

The Sunset View Club’s 52 apartments are all sizable, but many have dated decor such as patterned bedspreads and yellow-and-brown striped curtains, and generic modern artwork. The traditional wood or contemporary white-painted furniture is attractive, however. Apartments come with either one or two bedrooms that have either a double bed or two twins, as well as a pull-out sofa in the lounge. They have small, but decently equipped kitchens with gray granite countertops and four-person dining tables. Kitchens include four-ring electric hobs, microwaves, toasters, kettles, and coffeemakers. All rooms have furnished balconies or terraces, some with small lawns, dining tables, and sun loungers. Straightforward bathrooms are modern and have shower/tub combos, bidets, hairdryers, and toiletries. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and safes. Wi-Fi require a fee.

The Sunset View Club lacks wellness amenities, but otherwise it offers a sufficient list of features. Visitors particularly like the food on offer at the hotel’s restaurant, which serves three a la carte meals per day, and caters to British tastes with fish and chips and Sunday roasts on the menu. The restaurant also organizes evening entertainment often during high season, and it doubles as the hotel’s bar. As well as this, there is a pool bar providing drinks, snacks, and light meals throughout the day. Guests spend most of their time lounging by the large pool, on loungers shaded by thatched parasols, and hopping in and out of the hot tub. There is also a smaller, shallow pool for kids. The complex has coin-operated laundry facilities. Wi-Fi is available, but there is a steep fee to access the network.
