Bottom Line

This scenic, pet-friendly hotel in the Texas Hill Country has stunning views of the lake for a bargain price. The lower-middle-range property is peaceful, with private balconies, fireside lounging, an outdoor pool with a waterfall, and picnic tables. It's also a convenient three- to four-minute drive to the charming center of Marble Falls, where there are several restaurants. This is helpful since there’s no full restaurant on-site, although the hotel offers a free hot and cold buffet breakfast and a store stocked with beer, wine, and snacks. The 73 rooms are certainly generic, but they're outfitted with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and microwaves, plus all face the lake and most have balconies. This property offers one of the best values for the area, though the pricier Horseshoe Bay Resort offers a ton more for both kids and adults.

Oyster Hotel Review

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Marble Falls

Scene

Peaceful getaway with lovely lake views for travelers on a budget

Sitting atop a hill overlooking Lake Marble Falls and surrounded by lots of foliage, this budget hotel is quite scenic. The four-story hotel opened in 2008 and offers a bit more than the typical La Quinta chain property. There are picnic tables and a gazebo overlooking the lake, plus all rooms are oriented toward the water, making the views the most impressive feature of this hotel. Features are limited to an outdoor pool and indoor hot tub, but clientele are still an even mix of families and couples. The earth-toned design throughout is traditional and comfortable. The lobby has a stone fireplace, leather armchairs, a charming water fountain, and tapestries with Italian countryside scenes. A few furnishings are generic and dated, but everything is well-maintained.

Location

On a hill overlooking Lake Marble Falls, a short drive to the town center

This tranquil hotel in the Texas Hill Country is less than a five-minute drive to the Marble Falls town center, where there are several shops and restaurants. Blue Bonnet Cafe, well-known for its delicious pies, is a three-minute drive over the bridge (or 20-minute walk) away. Visitors can pick their own strawberries and taste homemade ice cream at Sweet Berry Farm, a 10-minute drive away. Lake Marble Falls is just across the road from the hotel, and nearby Buchanan Lake (a 30-minute drive away) is also a nice spot for boating and fishing. Austin is just over an hour away by car and San Antonio is about two hours. Free parking is available on-site.

Rooms

Generic but comfy lake-facing rooms, most with balconies

Lake views are the drawcard of this hotel and most rooms, with the exception of those on the first floor, come with furnished balconies overlooking the water. There are a road and parking lot between the hotel and the lake, but the vistas are still scenic. It's also worth noting that guests can see adjacent balconies, so they aren't totally private. The 73 rooms range from a standard with one king bed to suites that have separate living areas. Decor is generic and neutral-toned, consisting of classic wooden furniture, beige carpeting, walls, and linens, and some pleasant Tuscany artwork. Every room comes with a 37-inch flat-screen TV with premium cable channels, free high-speed Wi-Fi, a work desk, microwave, mini-fridge, safe, coffeemaker, sink, and iron and ironing board. Bathrooms are spacious and come with a shower/tub combo, wall-attached hairdryer and makeup mirror, and free hotel-brand toiletries.

Features

Outdoor swimming pool, free hot and cold breakfast, and pet-friendly policy

This hotel lacks a bar and full restaurant, but all rates include a free hot and cold breakfast buffet consisting of cereal, waffles, eggs, breads, and juice. Other features are surprising for a La Quinta, including the outdoor swimming pool with a waterfall and an indoor hot tub -- both surrounded by lounge chairs and tables. An additional covered seating area near the pool, a gazebo, and picnic tables provide more options for outside dining and lounging. An on-site shop sells a variety of snacks, frozen dinners, and essentials, along with wine and beer. A no-frills, 24-hour business center has computers and a printer, plus Wi-Fi is free throughout. A basic gym and coin-operated laundry machines are also available. Pets up to 30 pounds are permitted for no additional fee.
