This mid-range hotel houses 60 contemporary rooms an eight-minute walk from Lamai Beach. Unlike many hotels in the area, Lamai Buri Resort's decor doesn't have the traditional Thai style that some guests may hope for, but the design throughout is attractive and incorporates lots of wood. Guest rooms offer modern amenities such as air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi (though it's unreliable), minibars, and safes. TVs are provided, but some are old tube-style. Many (but not all) rooms offer a furnished outdoor seating area. The outdoor pool is pleasant and the restaurant's food and free breakfast receive positive reviews. Unfortunately, there are almost no other features to speak of. Those looking for more to do on-site may prefer Thai House Beach Resort, which has a fitness center and a beachfront massage house.
Scene
Quiet hotel with decor that lacks much Thai style
Lamai Buri Resort's atmosphere is quiet and calm, ideal for romance-seeking couples who are the predominant clientele. Families visit this resort, too, but with few on-site amenities for kids, they're not as prevalent. Decor is fairly underwhelming throughout, and unlike many hotels in the area, it doesn't have a prevalent traditional Thai look. Still, the rooms and common areas are well-kept and have a contemporary feel, with lots of wood and neutral tones. Some spaces have a few more authentic touches, such as vaulted teak-wood ceilings, figurines around the front desk, and stone elephants around the pool. Rates are competitive, but there's little to keep guests occupied aside from the pretty pool area.
Location
In a quiet area, walking distance to the beach and plenty of dining options
Lamai Buri Resort is located on a somewhat busy street, but previous guests have said traffic noise is not an issue. The property is lush and tropical, and some rooms have sea views, but it's not a beachfront resort. Guests are within an eight-minute walk of Lamai Beach, though. In the immediate surrounds are countlessbars, restaurants, and cafes, and there are also some sights and entertainment options nearby, too. The popular Big Buddha Temple is 35 minutes away by car. Guests can also head to Samui Sea Sports (27-minute walk or three-minute drive) for water-based activities such as stand-up paddleboarding and parasailing. Samui Airport is just over a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Bright and well-maintained rooms with average decor
Guest rooms at Lamai Buri Resort are bright, some have large sliding glass doors that lead out to a balcony and let in lots of natural light. The decor throughout is contemporary, but similar to the lobby and common areas in that there isn't much in the way of Thai style. The rooms have a clean and simple aesthetic in mostly neutral tones, with a few pops of color in blue accent walls and colorful satin bed runners and throw pillows. All rooms feature modern amenities including free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, minibars with beer, and safes. Though many rooms have flat-screen TVs, others have dated tube-style TVs. Another variation from room to room is its view and outdoor lounging space. Not all rooms promise a furnished balcony or terrace, and the priciest are those with a distant sea view. Bathrooms have walk-in showers, hairdryers, and limited free bath products.
Features
A large pool with adjacent bar and well-reviewed restaurant
The hotel has a few quality features, but it's notably missing a spa, gym, and kid-friendly amenities. Guests won't get a view of the ocean from the hotel's outdoor pool, but the lush jungle-like tropical surroundings are pleasant. The pool is well-sized and is surrounded by padded loungers and umbrellas. Although there isn't a separate kids' pool, there is a shallow section suitable for children. An adjacent bar serves snacks, soft drinks, and cocktails, and the open-air restaurant has received positive reviews for its local Thai and international dishes. It's open for all three meals, plus guests can opt for 24-hour room service. The free breakfast buffet includes fresh fruit and made-to-order eggs, plus traditional Thai dishes. Laundry service, as well as car and motorbike rentals are available. Spotty Wi-Fi is free throughout. Guests can rent cars and motorbikes directly from the hotel.
