Bottom Line

Long Beach Chalet is a small, rustic value resort located towards the southern end of Long Beach, Lanta's longest strip of sand on the island's west coast. There are 27 bungalows here, and standard accommodations are pleasant enough, with wooden floors, traditional thatched roofs, and hammocks. Sea View, Deluxe Sea View, and Beachfront Villas, added after our visit, are more luxurious. However, bathrooms are located outside of the rooms in some units (though they're extremely close and still private to each unit). Resort features include two swimming pools: one with a whirlpool and a waterfall and an infinity pool overlooking the water, plus a beachfront restaurant. It's also worth considering the Lanta Casuarina Beach Resort, which has a beautiful ocean-view pool and truly en-suite bathrooms.

Long Beach Chalet

Scene

Casual, laid-back property with traditional thatched-roof huts in a tropical garden and on the beach

Long Beach Chalet is a rustic, relaxed, back-to-nature style property surrounded by a tropical garden. The entry to the resort isn't anything special, and the lobby, sits in a single open-air thatched-roof building right by the main road. The interior of the property is more attractive, with traditional thatched-roof chalets lined up on either side of a path that winds through the garden. The property extends all the way down to the beach, but it's still a bit of a trek from the main part of the resort up the road. The beach is quiet here, fronted by casuarina trees, and feels remote. The hotel's beachfront restaurant, Lym's, operates out of an open-air palapa. Most guests are budget travelers and backpackers.

Location

On the main road at the southern end of Long Beach, Koh Lanta's longest strip of sand

Long Beach Chalet is located on the main road that runs down Lanta's west coast, toward the southern end of Long Beach, the island's longest beach. However, there's not much traffic in the area -- particularly at night -- so noise is not usually an issue. The main residential part of the resort is a five-minute walk through the grounds from the actual beach. There are plans to build beachfront lodgings, however. A number of restaurants, shops, and bars can be found a five- to 10-minute walk down the main road.

Rooms

Garden chalets with wooden floors and hammocks, most with private, adjacent (but not truly en-suite) bathrooms

Long Beach Chalet has 27 air-conditioned units, all of which are traditional thatched-roof bungalows on stilts with nice wood floors. Amenities are basic, but include small flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and electric water thermoses for making tea and coffee. Decor is simple, with wooden beds, wardrobes, nightstands, and yellow walls with mounted lights but no artwork. In some rooms, the bathrooms are located outside of the main rooms (they're usually on the other side of the outdoor entryway -- very close). Note that toilet paper shouldn't be flushed down the toilets here. The biggest plus to the basic rooms are the open spaces underneath the elevated bungalows, where there are lounge beds and hammocks to relax in. The Budget Chalets sit next to the main road and have smaller terraces. Standard Chalets are exactly the same as their Budget counterparts, but are located farther into the garden. The hotel can typically provide a single extra bed per room for a fee, or a baby cot, upon management approval. The hotel added Beachfront, Sea View, and Deluxe Sea View Villas, which are closer to the beach and have added perks like premium Wi-Fi and free minibar items, after our visit. These rooms have a more upscale look than lower accommodation types. Deluxe Sea View Villas and Beachfront Villas have jacuzzi bathtubs and outdoor showers.
