Bottom Line

The large, mid-range Peace Laguna Resort is hidden away from the bustle of Ao Nang, even though it's just off the main road. Although it is not on the beach, it's only a 10-minute walk to the sand, and its setting is dramatic -- it sits right under the towering limestone cliffs, and is surrounded by plenty of water. The resort includes three swimming pools, and its cute cottages sit along either side of a lagoon. The Standard Rooms are not as picturesque as the cottages, but they're spacious and peaceful, include mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs, and cost less. For a price that isn't much more than its competitors', this is a good choice for those looking for a true resort feel close to all the action.

Peace Laguna Resort

Scene

A casual laid-back spot for water lovers, but a bit dead at night

The theme here is water, and the vibe is pretty casual, with guests hanging out everywhere in their beachwear, either at the pools or in the open-air lobby. The on-site restaurant and bar are minuscule, and so there really isn't much of a night scene here. This is not the place for guests who want to party.

Location

In central Ao Nang but hidden away and surrounded by natural beauty

The resort is hidden down a side street just off Ao Nang's main drag, but it is serene and extremely picturesque. The rooms and pools are situated along a lagoon, which sits under the towering limestone cliffs just behind the resort. The beach is within a 10-minute walk, as are several places to eat and drink. Public transport is right outside the door.

Rooms

Lovely cottages on the lagoon, and spacious, lower-priced Standard Rooms

The Standard and Superior Rooms are not as fancy, nor do they offer the same setting or views as the Private Cottages, but they are spacious, bright, and airy. Most of the rooms feature separate bathtubs and showers (Standard Rooms have shower/tub combos), but note that the showers in both Private and Deluxe Cottages are outdoors. All bathrooms come with large mirrors and soap and shampoo dispensers. While the rooms are modern and all white (and a bit sterile), the Private Cottages are more traditional Thai, with polished wood floors, comfy chairs or divans, paintings, and decks overlooking the beautiful lagoon. They are far more atmospheric than the lower category rooms, and worth the extra price tag. Amenities across all room types include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, electric kettles for tea and coffee, private outdoor spaces, and free Wi-Fi. Note that the lush tropical setting means a few critters, such as lizards or ants, may find their way inside.

There are also a small kids' club, a fitness center with weight-training and cardio equipment, and a tiny library. The resort also has a spa and sauna. There is also one small restaurant on-site, plus a small coffee corner/bar, but there's plenty of places to eat in town.
