Bottom Line

Far from the mainland on the island of Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Andaman Beach Resort's main selling point is its beautiful location on a white-sand beach. Its rooms vary from those with dated decor and no air-conditioning, to updated bungalows with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. All are on the small side and even the updated rooms show some wear on the furniture. The resort has a buffet restaurant and an outdoor pool, and staff can assist with transportation arrangements needed to get to the island. However, travelers may want to consider neighboring hotels on the island; many share the same price point.

Phi Phi Andaman Beach Resort

Scene

Low-key beach property with bungalows

Phi Phi Andaman Beach Resort is comprised of small individual bungalows and a main building centered around an outdoor courtyard. Its small lobby has an interesting wall map of the island made of stone, with a stack of private lockers for rent in one corner. Past the outdoor pool, the open-air restaurant has seating all the way to the beach.

Location

Along the beach on the island of Phi Phi Don

Right on Ao Ton Sai Beach, Andaman Beach Resort is on Ko Phi Phi Don ("Ko" means island in the native language), within walking distance of bars, restaurants, and Tonsai Pier. To get to the island, public ferries leave from Krabi on the mainland, as well as from Phuket. So expect a 30-minute drive from Krabi Airport to Krabi Pier (also known as Klong Jilad Pier), and then a trip by ferry or private boat to the island. Once on the island, guests are met by hotel staff and escorted to the resort, about a 15-minute walk away.

Phi Phi Don is the largest of the Phi Phi Islands, with attractions on the smaller Ko Phi Phi Le, like Maya Beach and Viking Cave, accessible by boat.

Rooms

Variety of small rooms and bungalows, some with air-conditioning and others without

The resort's 62 rooms are split between small bungalows and a large main building. Some of the standard rooms lack air-conditioning, and many are not only dated, but in need of basic renovations, as they have rusty fixtures and chipped paint. Pastel-colored decor and old furniture occupy the small rooms with little patios or balconies.

Deluxe and luxury rooms and bungalows have a more modern decor with widely varying color schemes -- some are neutral or earth-toned, while others are done in a bright lime green. Some have draped four-poster beds and all have balconies or patios. Small flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning come standard in these higher-category rooms. Some bathrooms have large glass walk-in showers, while others have rainfall showers that are open to the outdoors behind slatted wood partition walls.

Features

Outdoor pool, massages, and a breakfast buffet

The hotel's main attraction is its beautiful stretch of beach, where guests can snorkel and arrange private boats for leisure or tours to nearby islands. There's no bar here and the restaurant hours are limited, with a breakfast buffet (Thai and European food) served from an open-air room and a terrace that overlooks the beach. The outdoor pool has an integrated kids' pool, and is surrounded by a sun deck dotted with loungers and umbrellas. There is also an on-site Thai massage service, with a typical range of treatments.
