Bottom Line

The Phra Nang Inn is a medium-size, two-and-a-half pearl hotel that sits along some of the nicest stretch of beach in Ao Nang. The property, including its rooms, is somewhat worn and weathered, but the inn is within a few feet of the beach, and has a happening little beach bar. Some of the rooms look out on the glorious sunsets and islands in the bay. The inn is also near the best dining, drinking, and shopping in Ao Nang, and while its entrance is on the main road, most of the property fronts the pedestrian thoroughfare along the beach. Though the Phra Nang Inn has a prime location, it has fewer amenities than some of its nearby competitors, but its room rates are the same, or higher.

Phra Nang Inn

Scene

Casual beach-loving crowd, home to the Beach Bar, the most happening night spot on the beach

While the resort has two swimming pools, they're awkwardly shaped with few places to sit. One pool is tiny with a couple of lounges next to it, while the other is long but very narrow, with bridges over it in spots, more like a decorative pool than a lap pool. With the beach nearby, most guests tend to hang out there. The resort does have a happening beachfront scene with a funky little bar that comes alive at night with live music. Both the bar and adjoining restaurant have pastel-blue colors and attract a casual and laid-back crowd to what is arguably the best beach area of Ao Nang, and get pretty busy come nightfall.

Location

Right on the beach in the heart of Ao Nang, with convenient access to drinking and dining

The Phra Nang Inn is located on Ao Nang's most appealing strip of beach, and the resort sits just feet away from the sand. The resort's entrance is via the main road through town, but most of the property sits along the beachfront that has a pedestrian thoroughfare running through it. All of Ao Nang's top restaurants, drinking, and shopping can be found within a two- to 10-minute walk of the hotel. Getting to Ao Nang is easy, as there is plenty of transport, both public and private, from the Krabi Airport and Krabi Town, both about 20 to 30 minutes away, depending on traffic.

Rooms

The rooms are weathered and some lack sunlight, but they all have free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, and many offer sunset and bay views from their balconies.

The rooms at the Phra Nang Inn differ from one another in design, ranging from green-pastel loft-style Deluxe Rooms to quirky beachfront rooms with rickety porches and large windows looking out at the tourist hordes on the beach. The rooms look a bit weathered -- wooden floors look as if they haven't been refinished in many years, and some of the furniture looks dated. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi,  bathtubs and separate showers, and have flat-screen TVs with cable channels, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and safes, as well as king-size beds. Many have sunset and bay views on the Andaman Islands. Once the natural light fades, though, the rooms become dark. The  Standard Deluxe Rooms have neither desks nor chairs, and smaller TVs.

Features

Happening Beach Bar with live music, beachfront restaurant, two small pools, and a small spa

Unlike some of its similarly priced competitors, the Phra Nang Inn has no fitness center, no kids' club, and no function rooms. The resort does have two swimming pools, though -- one is long and narrow, and the other is tiny. The funky Beach Bar at the front of the hotel is one of the more happening spots along the beach road, and it's packed every night with people listening to live music and watching the sunsets. Phra Nang Inn's restaurant is also located here, and there's a small spa for massages next door.
