SriLanta Resort

This hotel is spread out over 12 acres on the coast in an utterly remote corner of Koh Lanta. That distance away from it all plays to the hotel's strong suits, which are its tranquil vibe, private ambience, and a beach that sees almost no one except for the hotel's own guests. It's a laid-back, quiet place suited for guests looking for a relaxing beach vacation. The style is a bit rustic, with the focus on the natural surroundings. The open-air lobby sits under a thatched roof and features a wood floor and tree-trunk columns -- a motif that will be repeated throughout the property. Wooden benches and chairs provide places for guests to sit, and there are plenty of spots for taking in the beach views, from the pools to the restaurants. The resort draws mostly couples, but families and groups also make their way here. 

This hotel is located on the beach on the western side of Koh Lanta.  The setting is rather remote, so a scooter or car is helpful for exploring the island. However, a number of small hotels and casual local restaurants dot the roads near the property, all within a five- to 10-minute walk of the property. The town of Saladan and the ferry pier are about a 30-minute drive north, and Khlong Chak Waterfall is about 15 minutes south by car. The Lanta Orchid Nursery and Butterfly Garden also can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. The airport is back on the mainland, in Krabi, and requires a boat ride and a drive to reach. Up to three hours should be budgeted for the journey. 

This resort's rustic style extends to its rooms and villas, all of which are nestled into the natural landscape full of trees, tropical vegetation, and animals such as birds, geckos, lizards, and monkeys. The style is Thai rustic and minimalist, with wood floors and furniture, neutral color schemes, and mosquito netting on beds. Woven bamboo walls add to the character, though decor is otherwise limited. Amenities include air-conditioning, minibars, safes, and electric kettles. All rooms have TVs, though they are old tube units. Bathrooms are basic and come with hairdryers and toiletries. Some have showers only, but others add tubs as well. Villas may come with outdoor tubs with views of the jungle. The Beach House rooms have views of the sea. It's worth noting that as of 2016, certain rooms were more fresh than others as the hotel was undergoing renovations -- check ahead to see what your money's getting you, just in case.

Like most Koh Lanta hotels, it's all about the beach at the SriLanta. Yes, there are some rocks jutting out from the water and the surf can get rough at times, but the water is mostly fine for swimming and the shore views are great. The hotel's two small pools sit next to the sand, allowing for even more beach views. The hotel's main restaurant, Surya, is located right on the beach as well. Guests can sit on the sand in the open air, or inside under a wooden roof. The menu is Thai and international. A free breakfast buffet includes Thai and Western hot and cold options. The 10 Beach Club also is by the beach, while the Bamboo has books for guests to read and plenty of places to hang out. The Sri Spa offers massage, body scrubs and wraps, facials, and steam treatments. The free yoga classes are a hit with previous guest, for those wanting a more active way to unwind. Activities can be arranged with hotel staff, and scooters are available to rent. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
