X2 Koh Samui – A Spa Retreat

X2 Koh Samui Resort is set over a sprawling five-acre (two hectare) property, which is tranquil and serene. Grounds are lined with tall shade trees, palms, and manicured tropical greenery. The hotel sports an ultra-modern look, but has incorporated natural materials which help to add some warmth to the otherwise minimalist contemporary spaces. Interiors feature wood floors and ceilings, polished concrete pillars and walls, steel framework, quality hardwood trim and furniture, and black marble accents.

The hotel's facilities are well suited for leisure and relaxation, with a large outdoor swimming pool, a full-service spa, and a casual upscale restaurant. The hotel is positioned along a quiet white-sand beach, which is a decent place to relax, sunbathe, or go for walks, though it isn't suitable for swimming as it is shallow and rocky. Also, the beach is quite narrow and not as picturesque many of the other beaches on Samui. 4k Restaurant is house in a large semi open-air building and features high chapel ceilings, a long bar made of polished concrete, low couch seating, and unobstructed ocean views. Overall, the hotel is well maintained, but the common areas do show some general aging and wear and tear.

X2 Koh Samui is located along Hua Thanon Beach, a sleepy fishing village in the southeastern part of the island. The location is quiet and peaceful, but a bit far removed. There are few dining options or tourist attractions accessible on foot from the hotel. It's a 15-minute drive from to the nearest tourist hub, Lamai, an area with picturesque white-sand beaches and buzzing streets lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. For partygoers, Chaweng (a 40-minute drive away), is the place to be for happening beach clubs, nightclubs, cabaret shows, bars, and plenty of dining and shopping options. 

Guests continuing their trips on to Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, or Surat Thani (mainland) can depart from one of the four main piers dotted along Samui. Lomprayah catamaran speedboats leave from the Maenam Pier (a 50-minute drive from the hotel), and are reputably the quickest and most reliable option, but also the priciest. Transfers to Samui International Airport take up to 60 minutes depending on traffic.

X2 Koh Samui is an intimate resort offering a range of one- and two-bedroom private villa options, which feature either personal plunge pools or tropical garden courtyards. Villas have roomy floor-plans, with plenty of space both indoors and outside to chill and unwind. Interiors feature a stylish minimalist aesthetic, with sparsely decorated light colored walls and contrasting black accents, polished cement floors, and large windows that let in plenty of natural light and airflow. Rooms are outfitted with low wooden beds and comfy mattresses, work tables and chairs, and roomy wardrobes. Also, the terraces have comfy daybeds, lounge chairs, and outdoor dining tables. Villas facades have thick green vines growing up them, which creates a nice tropical vibe. The tall trees lining the villa exteriors add some much needed shade from the tropical heat. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, smartphones, safes, refrigerated minibars, tropical fruit platters, and bottled water.

Bathrooms have an open-plan design and an elegant modern look. There are black and gray terrazzo stylings, long vanity countertops with sunken porcelain sinks, large mirrors, walk-in rainfall showers, and deep soaking tubs. Bathroom amenities include hairdryers, bathrobes and slippers, and toiletries.

The hotel's main draw is that all rooms rates include free daily spa treatments. Although, guests should note that spa time slots do get filled up, so it's best to book spa appointments well in advance. The spa offers a full range of massage and beauty treatments, and features gorgeously appointed couples' massage rooms with private bathrooms. Another attractive facility is the chic outdoor swimming pool, which has plenty of comfy seating laid out and overlooks the beach and tropical scenery. 

4K restaurant is open all day, has a fully stocked bar, and serves a multi-cuisine menu with Thai and Western favorites. Breakfast is included in all room rates and is served buffet style. The spread is fairly extensive, with made-to-order eggs, bacon and sausages, a salad and juice bar, sparkling wine, fresh fruits, coconuts, cereals, deli meats, cheeses, and baked goods.

Free extras include Wi-Fi, on-site parking, kayaks and bicycles to borrow, and daily shuttle service to Chaweng and Lamai.
