The mid-range Holiday Inn Toronto Airport caters to mostly business- and short-term travelers on layovers. Its 191 rooms are traditionally styled and include flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, and microwaves and mini-fridges can be added. With a pool, restaurant, fitness center, free Wi-Fi, and meeting rooms, the hotel has the basics covered. Airport shuttle service is available, but guests have complained about long waits. Scene

Straightforward chain hotel that caters to business travelers and those on layovers

Given its location near the airport and convention centers, the Holiday Inn Toronto Airport draws mostly business travelers and those on layovers. The lobby, with its high ceilings, box-shaped lights, contemporary armchairs, and chic black-and-white photography, is elegant. But while the space is bright and airy, people tend to breeze through. It’s the restaurant and pool that invites guest to linger while grabbing a speedy meal or taking a quick dip before heading off to their meetings. The hotel was last renovated in 2012, and the gym, business center, and some of the rooms have begun to look a bit tired and faded.

Location

Close to the airport, convention centers, shopping, and dining spots

A five-minute drive from the airport and near two convention centers, the Holiday Inn Toronto Airport East is convenient for business travelers but less so for tourists, as it's a 30-minute drive to downtown. The hotel is a six-minute walk to the Toronto Congress Center and a 10-minute drive to the International Center, another business event center nearby. There are restaurants within walking distance, and the Woodbine Shopping Center and Woodbine Racetrack is an eight-minute drive from the hotel. There are a number of golf courses less than a 10-minute drive away.

Rooms

Traditional rooms with flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers; microwaves and mini-fridges on request

Spacious and tastefully decorated, the 191 guest rooms and suites at this Holiday Inn are done up in beige and coffee tones. Dark espresso-colored furniture complements the cream and beige carpeting, but there's little in the way of brightness, and even the artwork has drab, muted colors. Bedskirts and wooden work desks on casters aim for a regal, traditional look, however some of the textiles are looking a little worn and faded. All guest rooms and suites are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Mini-fridges and microwaves are available on request. The cream-colored bathrooms have shower/tub combos, and toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Solid lineup including an indoor pool, gym, meeting rooms, and free shuttle to the airport

Holiday Inn Toronto Airport East has all of the features of the Holiday Inn brand, which is especially helpful for corporate travelers or those on a layover. Plentiful business amenities include seven fully equipped meeting rooms, a business center with desktops and printers, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Free airport shuttle service is available, although waits can be long. On-site parking is available for a fee as well. There’s an indoor heated swimming pool that’s brightly lit by a skylight and surrounded by loungers, plus a gym with a handful of cardio machines, a few weight machines, and free weights, although some of the machines are dated. The on-site, homey Perkins Family Restaurant serves breakfast (for a fee), lunch, and dinner. Room service is available but has limited hours. Children under the age of 19 stay free when they stay in their parents' rooms.
