Bottom Line

The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel is a huge, upscale business property located right in the heart of downtown Toronto, connected to the PATH underground system and within easy access of most of the area’s top attractions. Its 1,377 rooms are large and elegant, with excellent beds, coffeemakers, modern conveniences such as USB charging points, and great bathrooms with either sleek walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Entry-level units, though, lack mini-fridges, which is surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Wi-Fi is only free for guests staying in Club Access Rooms, as well as for members of Sheraton’s loyalty program (free to join). Multiple on-site dining options are great, as are the gym and the heated indoor/outdoor pool. The nearby Hilton Toronto is another great option in the area for about the same price.

Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel

Scene

Huge business hotel with elegant interiors and excellent amenities

Housed in a 43-story gray concrete tower in the heart of Toronto, the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel blends in well with the neighboring structures. Though the exterior is not much to look at and feels rather bland and corporate, interiors are surprisingly elegant. The lobby is huge and sophisticated, with tons of sitting areas, escalators leading to the mezzanine, and several elevator banks leading to different sides of the tower. Though its size and layout are similar to what you would expect to find at a convention center, the design -- which incorporates wooden ceilings and living room-style sitting areas with plush armchairs, cute rugs, and warm lighting -- lend it a chic, upscale feel. The property caters mostly to business travelers, though its location near city-center attractions and great rooms draw couples as well. Suites have sofa beds, and King Rooms can fit a rollaway bed (for a fee), but the hotel is not quite family-friendly.

Rates at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel are on par with other upscale properties in the area, but those not willing to pay extra for an in-room mini-fridge may prefer the nearby Hilton Toronto, virtually a carbon copy of the Sheraton and in the same price range. The Four Seasons Hotel Toronto and the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto are excellent alternatives for travelers seeking something even more luxe and exclusive, complete with world-class spas, outstanding dining, and beautiful rooms. Those wanting something cheaper in the downtown area may want to compare rates at the Executive Hotel Cosmopolitan Toronto, which is an all-suites property with fully equipped kitchenettes and a great spa. Maintenance, however, is somewhat lacking.

Connected to the PATH underground system in downtown Toronto

The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Toronto and is convenient both for business and leisure travelers. The Metro Toronto Convention Center is just a 15-minute walk away, and many of the area’s sights can be reached on foot in less than 20 minutes, including Eton Centre, the CN Tower, Rogers Center, Scotiabank Arena, and Ripley’s Aquarium. The National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company are both down the block from the hotel. The Sheraton is connected to the PATH underground system, which provides access to hundreds of shops without having to brave the cold in inclement weather. Toronto Pearson International Airport is a 30-minute drive away.

Rooms

Large, elegant rooms come with coffeemakers and great bathrooms; most have panoramic city views.

The hotel has 1,377 rooms, ranging from 280-square-foot Standard Queen Rooms to 500-square-foot suites with separate living rooms and sofa beds. Decor is elegant and stylish, with lots of dark-wood accents, plush neutral carpets, and chic beige wallpaper with geometric patterns. Beds are a highlight here, complete with Sheraton’s signature mattresses, four pillows each, and fluffy duvets. Rooms with one or two queen-size beds don’t allow cribs or rollaway beds (though all feature a small sitting area with an armchair and a matching ottoman), but units with one king bed do. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, and most offer expansive city views. Some units on lower floors have balconies and garden views.

Standard in-room amenities are average for the price, consisting of large flat-screen TVs with cable channels and pay-per-view movies, safes, coffeemakers, and USB charging points. Mini-fridges, however, are only available on request, for a fee and upon availability, which is rather disappointing for an upscale hotel. In addition, Wi-Fi is only free for Sheraton’s loyalty program members (free to join), as well as for guests staying in Club Rooms, which also come with minibars and free access to an executive lounge offering free breakfast and evening snacks and drinks. Bathrooms are sleek and spotless, with wood and marble vanities, backlit mirrors, hairdryers, and either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. A common complaint, though, is the lack of counter space, especially in entry-level rooms.

Features

Great dining options, heated pool, excellent gym, extensive meeting space, and parking

The hotel offers a wide array of dining options, including a casual grill serving buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner; a solid (but somewhat overpriced) steakhouse and Irish bar, and a diner-style venue serving comfort food. There is also a cute cafe in the lobby with good coffee and pastries. Room service is available 24/7 for a fee. The heated indoor/outdoor pool is a great perk year-round, complete with free towel service and a spacious deck with plants. The gym is a standout feature here, offering a wide array of cardio and strength-training machines, along with free fitness classes.

As a hotel that caters largely to business travelers, the Sheraton has its own 130,000-square-foot convention center, complete with a 2,000-person ballroom and smaller meeting rooms for more intimate events. All rooms feature modern audiovisual equipment, and catering and event-planning services are both available for a fee. Underground parking is available on-site for a fee.
