Bottom Line

The four-pearl Kumkoy Beach Resort & Spa is an all-inclusive property set alongside the beach of the same name, and it's especially popular with German travelers. The 672 rooms are spacious and modern, with attractive bathrooms and good views from most -- some sit right beside the lovely pools, which include waterslides and a hot tub set in green grounds. Buffet and a la carte restaurants get good reviews (though dining spaces can get crowded), and the poolside bar serves drinks and snacks. There’s a modern spa with sauna and Turkish bath, and a well-equipped gym, plus popular live entertainment. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Travelers looking for something slightly cheaper might consider the nearby Dream World Aqua.

Oyster Hotel Review

Sunis Kumkoy Beach Resort Hotel & Spa

Scene

Low-rise resort with mix of modern and more dated interiors, but beautiful gardens

The Kumkoy is an all-inclusive resort that’s especially popular with German families. The fairly low-rise design sets it apart from neighboring properties, and the gorgeous, well-cared-for grounds include villa-style accommodations in addition to the five-story main building. The large, modern and attractive split-level lobby has vaulted white ceilings sporting chandeliers, plus indoor palm trees, elegant modern art canvases, and natural light. Downstairs, decor is still pleasant overall, but slightly more dated, with dark-wood-fronted, brown-marble-topped reception desks, and old-fashioned rectangular chandelier-style downlighting. There’s busy brown floral-patterned floor tiling, and dated brown armchairs. The outdoor deck is pleasant, but has outdated furniture. Outside, the beautiful gardens are planted with palm trees and handsome wooden bridges cross the lovely pools.

Rooms

Spacious, modern rooms; many with great views and some with swim-up pool access

Rooms are largely spacious, bright, and modern -- if a tad generic in parts. There are tan-wood headboards and bedside tables, pale wood-laminate flooring, and white walls with neutral accents. Windows are framed by white net curtains and brown blackout curtains. Brown bed throws (in some rooms) are on the dated side, and there are work desks, plus small closets and cabinets. Small, largely enclosed balconies have simple outdoor furniture; many rooms have lovely pool and sea views, though cheaper rooms face inland.

Some Standard Rooms sleep up to three in a double and a single bed, while Family Rooms sleep four between master bedrooms and second bedrooms with twin beds (and some bunk beds), and have large balconies. Four-person Grand Floor Deluxe Rooms have similar amenities overall, but rooms are brighter thanks to lodge-style pinewood furniture throughout, plus floral linens, tree-branch-style wall murals, and gray-brown curtains, though faux-tile accent wall paneling looks a tad odd. These rooms also have lovely large poolside balconies, set with sun beds, tables, and chairs.

Amenities in all units include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, phones, free Wi-Fi, safes, stocked minibars (no liquor), and coffee- and tea-making facilities.

Entry-level bathrooms are modern and attractive but small-ish, with cream-gray wall tiling, brown marble-effect vanities featuring slightly dated submerged sinks, and walk-in showers with power showerheads. Others are more up-to-date with countertop sinks, green mosaic splashbacks, and rainfall showerheads. In two-bedroom accommodations, master bathrooms come with shower/tub combos, and second bathrooms have walk-in showers. Hairdryers, robes, slippers, and pump toiletries are provided.
