Bottom Line

The 27-room mid-range Inn on the Cliff is a family-friendly boutique hotel located atop a cliff, offering the undisputedly best views in St. George. The Inn is unique for the area in that it's isolated and quiet, with chic, contemporary decor; most local hotels are chain outposts in busier settings. A free continental breakfast is delivered to guest rooms daily, and the hotel's restaurant, the Cliffside, is run by a Cordon Bleu chef. Guest rooms are chic and minimalist, with furnished private balconies and unforgettable views of Zion National Park. Those wanting to be closer to town and restaurants could try the mid-range Best Western Plus Abbey, where rates are lower but rooms are less stylish.

Inn on the Cliff

Scene

Views, views, and more views, with spacious decks and comfy seating areas

From the outside, the Inn on the Cliff doesn’t appear to be extraordinary. The exterior corridors overlooking the parking lot give the impression of a run-of-the-mill motel, but once inside, the Inn (renovated and then reopened by the current owners in 2014) is anything but ordinary. The design and decor are contemporary and sleek, with a minimalist aesthetic that makes use of colors and materials found in the landscape visible from the huge picture windows. Even the fitness center has a large window overlooking the red cliffs and Zion National Park. The Cliffside Restaurant is stylish and, again, offers unforgettable views over St. George and the valley below. The spacious dining room has high ceilings hung with Edison bulbs; the terrace is furnished with charming terra-cotta tile tables and comfortable wicker chairs. Most definitely one of the most desirable hotels in the area, this property is also reasonable in price.

Location

High atop a mesa overlooking St. George, an hour's drive from Zion National Park

The Inn on the Cliff sits at the top of a mesa, shared only with the now defunct St. George Municipal Airport (little more than a runway). Its replacement, St. George Regional Airport, is a 20-minute drive away. The Inn is six minutes’ drive from Interstate 15. There are no restaurants or other businesses within walking distance of the hotel, though the area is quiet and safe, with lots of open space to roam. The hotel overlooks the town of St. George, as well as Zion National Park, which is about an hour's drive. There are many popular attractions within a five-minute drive of the hotel, including Brigham Young’s Winter Home, the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum, the St. George Art Academy, St. George Tabernacle, and Laser Mania Family Fun Center. Valderra Golf Course at the Ledges is within a 15-minute drive, and Snow Canyon State Park is 20 minutes away. Las Vegas airport is two hours from the inn by car.

Rooms

Spotless and modern, with gorgeous views, private balconies, and smart TVs

Rooms at the Inn on the Cliff are spotless and modern, with decor that reflects the stunning landscape outside the large picture windows. Double Queen Rooms and King Plus Rooms (the latter with trundle beds for extra sleeping space) are available, as well as the special Grandview Room and Cliffhouse Suite.

Guest rooms have accent walls covered with weathered wood planks; the other walls and textiles are done in natural shades of rust, grey, brown, and white. The light fixtures look like hanging lanterns, and add a romantic vibe. Each room has a furnished private balcony. Bathrooms are modern, with shower/tub combos and granite countertops, but the space is tight. There is limited closet space. Amenities include 50-inch flat-screen TVs with cable channels and the ability to access guest Netflix accounts, mini-fridges, free bottled water, Keurig coffeemakers (and hot chocolate), free toiletries, and turndown service. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms. Free chocolates are a nice touch.
