Oyster Hotel Review

Executive Hotel Le Soleil

Scene

Classic 12-story hotel

Though kids are welcome at Hotel Le Soleil, the vaulted ceilings, gold accents, and sculpted mahogany wood details found throughout the lobby will probably be lost on them. The hotel is more popular with couples and business travelers than with families. Red velvet armchairs are placed in front of a gold accented fireplace near the reception desk in the lobby. The Copper Chimney Restaurant continues the hotel's elegant design scheme with Murano glass chandeliers, an enormous hand-painted mural of the sun, and elegant mahogany panels on the wall.

Location

Vancouver's Financial District

Hotel Le Soleil has a super convenient location on a busy (but relatively quiet) one-way street with an adjacent bike lane in the heart of Vancouver's Financial District. From the hotel's front door, it's about a five-minute walk to Granville and Robson streets with a plethora of shopping and restaurant options. It's 10 minutes to the Coal Harbor Sea Wall and another 10-minutes to Stanley Park. A Sky Train station bringing passengers to the airport is a five-minute walk from the hotel. There's a fee for valet parking at Le Soleil.

Rooms

Clean and spacious with luxe details

There are 119 rooms and suites at Hotel Le Soleil, though layout, size, and view vary by price. Attention to luxurious details are evident throughout each room seen in the Biedermeier furniture, neutral striped wallpaper, and marble bathrooms. Some of the carpets, however, look stained. Keurig coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs look modern though telephones are old school and not in a retro-stylish way. Some bathrooms have glass-encased showers and double sinks. Aveda products are a luxe touch. Views of the Vancouver skyline are of course best from the highest floors.

Features

Indian restaurant, bar, and tiny fitness center

The best feature at Hotel Le Soleil is the on-site bar and restaurant, Copper Chimney, which serves breakfast and Indian cuisine for lunch and dinner. There's a full bar where guests can order cocktail and appetizers. Room service is also available. A tiny fitness center holds just three pieces of cardio equipment in front of a flat-screen TV, without any weights, but hotel guests can use the adjacent 30,000 square foot Health Club Annex for a small daily fee. Business travelers should note that there's a boardroom meeting space and 24-hour business center. Pets are allowed with a one-time cleaning fee.
