Hotel Centrale

Inside a bland white building, this hotel has a vintage look, but not in the charming, quaint sense of the word. The couches in the lobby are upholstered with worn, stodgy fabrics and tacky mirrors cover the front desk. The breakfast area is split in two rooms. One has a sunny yellow and gray color scheme, but the homey linens clash with the decades-old look. The other room looks more like a cafe and is a bit less obtrusive. Some guests may like the slightly retro vibe, but this is not a place most would want to linger.

The Centrale Hotel is located in the center of Mestre, an urban and populated area on the mainland of Venice. It’s close to decent restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. Public buses to the island of Venice stop fairly frequently across the street from the hotel, and the trip takes around 20 minutes. The Marco Polo International Airport is a 15-minute drive away. Discounted parking is available nearby, but not on-site.

The 100 rooms at the Centrale are decently sized and range from Singles to Quadruples, but are as dull and basic as they come. Beds are covered in generic hotel comforters and the furniture is simple wood which, while in good condition, has a decades-old style. There are flat-screen TVs, safes, and hairdryers in all rooms. Bathrooms are small, with bright yellow tile and shower/tub combos or tiny plastic-walled walk-in showers. The rooms overlooking the main road can be noisy due to traffic. 

As its a budget hotel, amenities at the Centrale are limited. A free buffet breakfast is served in two linked rooms on the ground floor and includes bread with cheese and jam, croissants, cakes, and cereals, along with juice and coffee. The hotel also has a small bar with coffees and spirits. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
