The 12-room Locanda Ca' Zose is a charming, mid-range boutique in Venice’s quiet and picturesque Dorsoduro area, overlooking the Rio della Fornace canal and a short ferry ride away from St. Mark's Square. The Ca’ Zose is set in a
pair of 17th-century townhouses, with late 18th-century decor,
including rustic wood ceiling beams, delicately painted furniture, and traditional Venetian
chandeliers. There is a shabby-chic vibe throughout, especially in the rooms, which
feature silks and damasks, oil paintings, exposed wooden ceiling beams, and small but adequate
bathrooms. There is a free breakfast served in a lovely breakfast room and Wi-Fi is free. Those who prefer a more touristy location may want to consider the Cavalletto & Doge Orseolo, though it can be slightly pricier.
Scene
An intimate boutique with a bed-and-breakfast feel set in a charming, historic property
The Locanda Ca’ Zose feels like a private
residence or bed-and-breakfast, tucked away off the beaten tourist track, in a
quiet area of Venice. Small and intimate, the inn has limited common areas for
socializing. The lobby is small and intimate, with exposed beam ceilings, potted plants, and a mostly white color palette. The
furnishings are late 18th-century, with painted furniture and lush
textiles. Oil paintings hang on the walls, and the windows offer picturesque
canal and street views that can feel like a trip back in time.
There is a charming breakfast room with 17th-century wood beams, pretty
red damask upholstered banquettes, bentwood chairs, white linen tablecloths,
and single blossoms on each table. The Locanda Ca’ Zose is filled with charm and personal
touches, and, although small, feels intimate rather than cramped. The inn
offers a pleasant stay and a Venetian vibe, without the chaos of tourists on
day trips.
Location
In a peaceful residential area, great for art lovers
The Locanda Ca’ Zose is in Venice’s
residential Dorsoduro area, overlooking the Rio della Fornace canal. There are
several bars and restaurants in the area, which are quiet and peaceful. It's around 10 minutes via water bus and foot to St. Mark's Square (or 20 minutes on foot only for those who cross the Ponte dell'Accademia), 20 minutes on foot to the Rialto Bridge, and around 30 minutes on foot to both the Santa Lucia
railway station and the chaotic cruise terminals. Art lovers will be pleased
to find the inn near the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Francois Pinault
art center. The nearest water bus stop is Salute, a two-minute walk away, and the inn is conveniently
reached by boat, in a great location for guests interested in day trips around
the region. The surrounding area is pretty and quintessentially Venetian with quiet canals and bridges.
Rooms
Charming and Venetian rooms, with a shabby-chic vibe and good wine in the minibars
Rooms at the Locanda Ca’ Zose are small,
clean, individually named, and packed with Venetian charm and shabby-chic decor.
The ceilings feature 17th-century wood beams and the painted furniture
is lovely and delicate. Rooms are traditional in decor, with patterned bedspreads and patterned carpets. Not all rooms have panoramic views, and the bathrooms,
with shower/tub combos, are small, but some have windows that
provide natural light. Amenities include air-conditioning, small flat-screen TVs with
satellite channels, safes, free toiletries, and minibars with a nice selection
of wines. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but the signal is strongest in rooms located near reception. The Junior Suite is one large room with the addition of a day bed.
