Bottom Line

The nine-room, mid-range Novecento Boutique
Hotel is a family-owned inn in a quiet but central location that's convenient for both tourists and business travelers. Romantic and packed with character, the Novecento is exquisitely stylish, with
quirky decor combining Mediterranean and Asian influences to create a
cozy, visually inspiring space. Guest rooms are individually decorated with
antiques, gorgeous textiles, and fun lighting fixtures, and have lovely modern bathrooms
that, though on the small side, feel luxurious. Hotel Campiello is a comparable property in this price range though its decor isn't quite as special.

Scene

A Mediterranean and Asian-influenced jewel box, with antique furnishings, gorgeous textiles, and spectacular style

The Novecento Boutique Hotel is a jewel box overflowing
with unexpected artwork, statues, fabrics, carpets, and homemade baked goods.
The Romanelli Family has owned the Novecento for decades, and, along with a
personal touch in customer service, each room, corner, artwork, and piece of
furniture has been individually selected. The vibe is “ethnic chic,” with decor that combines Mediterranean and Asian furnishings and textiles. The antiques
are early 19th century. The design is heavily influenced by world-famous
artist and fashion designer Mariano Fortuny, whose lush, interesting fabric combinations
can be seen in the hotel’s wall hangings, modern bed canopies, pillows, and
upholstery. The hotel hosts monthly art exhibitions. There is a comfortable,
exotic second-floor lounge and reading room, furnished with elaborately carved
antiques, low couches, and shelves of books and guidebooks for borrowing. The
Novecento’s brick-paved courtyard is picturesque and quiet, with tables and chairs
under umbrellas, where guests can have breakfast or afternoon cocktails from
the honor bar. The The picturesque Novecento is one of the city's more special hotels, which is saying something in a city as magical as Venice.Because there are only nine rooms, guests can expect lots of personal attention from the owners and staff.

Location

Near the Grand Canal and the Piazza San Marco, but quiet, relaxed, and out of the way

The Novecento Boutique Hotel is centrally
located, close to Venice’s Grand Canal, an easy walk to all the major
tourist sights. The Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop is within a short
walk, and the Piazza San Marco is 10 minutes away on foot. The baroque church,
Santa Maria Zobenigo, is 200 yards from the lobby entrance. The
Novecento is quiet and relaxed, tucked away from the tourist chaos but close
enough to the sights.

Rooms

Clean and funky, with cool artwork, stained-glass windows, and stunning textiles

The nine guest rooms at the Novecento
Boutique Hotel are clean and individually decorated, with luxe
Fortuny-influenced textiles and a mashup of Mediterranean and Asian style. Beds are wrought-iron or inlaid wood, antique or modern, with fancy sheets and
plenty of pillows. The decor is quirky, with stained-glass windows, funky
lamps, ornate chandeliers, cool sculptures, and interesting photography and
artwork on the walls. Floors are terrazzo tile. Bathrooms are modern and updated, with pretty mosaic
tile, wood floors, and either shower stalls or shower/tub combos. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, minibars,
safes, and C.O. Bigelow toiletries.

Features

Breakfast buffet, afternoon tea, reading room, and fitness center

The Novecento Boutique Hotel features a
lovely courtyard, where breakfast, presented on an ornately carved antique sideboard, is served during the summer months. Little
touches, like a Moroccan tea service with tea glasses, elevate this hotel
above others in its category. Afternoon tea is served, and includes homemade
pastries and biscuits. There is a reading room, where guests can relax with a
snack, coffee, a drink from the honor bar, and a selection of the hotel’s
newspapers, magazines, or books. Guests can use the Technogym fitness
center at the Novecento’s sister hotel.
