Bottom Line

The 25hours Hotel at MuseumsQuartier is a 217-room, upper-middle-range hotel that breaks the mold with its unhinged, circus-themed interiors. Its location is excellent, with most of Vienna's attractions within walking distance. Popular with locals for its stunning vistas, the hip bar is a real highlight, as is the American-inspired restaurant. Quirky rooms are well-equipped and mostly impressive, though some are small and lack storage. Overall, you could pay the same for a sleeker, smarter hotel, but this is a good pick for those who enjoy the unconventional.

25hours Hotel at MuseumsQuartier

Scene

Circus-themed hotel that was once a student dorm

Previously a student dorm, the 25hours Hotel at MuseumsQuartier is housed in a large, modern, and relatively featureless building that -- besides the "we are all mad here" slogan on the facade -- belies the unconventional and mischievous hotel within. Although renovated and expanded in 2013, interiors maintain a certain shabby-chic feel from the building's previous incarnation, with exposed ceiling structures and concrete floors, but all with a darkly playful circus theme throughout. Furnishings comprise eclectic hand-picked junk-shop salvaged pieces and random, big-top themed curios and oddities. Colorful, yet moody hallways -- with distressed picture frames, unsettling circus-performer paintings, and frequent occurrences of cage-style iron bars -- add to the ambience of quirky eccentricity that attracts a wide range of visitors, from the party crowd to business travelers up for something a little different.

There are also plenty of bars and restaurants in the immediate area, together with many pretty parks and gardens. Vienna International Airport is around 14 miles away, or 30 minutes by car on a good day.

Rooms are air-conditioned and include free Wi-Fi, docking stations, minibars, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels.
