Bottom Line

The Austria Trend Hotel Astoria Wien has been open for over a century and combines elegant, original detailing with some contemporary decor updates, some of which were made after its near destruction following occupation in WWII. Like the common areas, rooms have a combination of classical and modern decor and come with free Wi-Fi, although some lack air-conditioning. It's conveniently close to historic sites and shopping districts and has a good amount of meeting space, which attracts both tourists and business travelers alike. There's no restaurant on-site, but there is a bar as well as a breakfast room, which serves a buffet continental breakfast every morning (for a fee).

Austria Trend Hotel Astoria

Scene

Classic, historical hotel with elegant decor

The Austria Trend Hotel Astoria was built in the early 1900s and has a traditional Viennese style. At the time of its opening, it was the most modern hotel in the city, and was popular among diplomats, politicians, and actors. It suffered some damage during WWII when it was occupied by the Allies, but has since been renovated multiple times. Despite updates, it still has an elegant old-world feel, with a grand exteriors and boldly hued carpets, chandeliers, marble-topped tables, and mahogany wood-paneled walls in the interiors. Historic artifacts including antique cups, an old clock, and photographs of the hotel’s past are on display, as are old-fashioned phone booths, which have modern working phones in them.
