Bottom Line

The 74-room Best Western Premier Kaiserhof Wien is a privately run, mid-range hotel that belongs to a family of hoteliers of eight generations. The rooms vary in size and style, but all have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast, a dated fitness center with sauna, and a coffee shop with cozy seating. There's also an inviting bar area with an open fire. The location -- near plenty of restaurants and cafes, with the center of Vienna within easy walking distance -- is the highlight here. For a comparable price in the same neighborhood, the Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna Hotel has a restaurant and swimming pool, which this Best Western lacks.

Hotel Kaiserhof Wien

Scene

Traditional, family-run hotel with a comfortable, albeit dated, ambience

The Best Western Premier Kaiserhof Wien is a traditional hotel tucked into a row of historic buildings on a smart street with bicycles parked on the sidewalks. It was built in 1896 and offers a rich, traditional environment in a quiet, central location close to the imperial heart of Vienna. Inside, matching wood features are common throughout the space, from the oval front desk to the lobby bar. The hotel isn’t very decorative beyond traditional art and nice chandeliers. This is a good hotel for couples as some rooms have canopy beds. Business people also stay here, as this hotel has six conference rooms. Unfortunately, like the facade, the interior struggles to break free from a generic hotel ambience.

Location

Peaceful, side-street location

Located on a peaceful side street in the historical heart of Vienna, the Best Western Premier Hotel Kaiserhof Wien is just steps from the State Opera, Belvedere Palace, and the picturesque Ring-Straße. Schwarzenbergplatz and its large, beautiful fountain is a 10-minute walk away, as is the Vienna concert hall (Konzerthaus). Belvedere Palace -- once the home of the ruling Habsburg dynasty and now an art museum -- is about a 20-minute walk along the historical landmark's garden grounds. The nearest U-Bahn station, Taubstummengasse, is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and Vienna International Airport is about a 25-minute drive.

Rooms

Pleasant, functional rooms with simple, somewhat dated, decor

The Best Western Premier Kaiserhof Wien has 74 rooms; decor in each varies. Suites are modern, while other rooms are decorated in a traditional style with wood furnishings and carpeted floors. Striped bed runners match the curtains and some rooms have canopied beds. Rooms include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. White tiled bathrooms are outfitted with shower/tub combos and plenty of room around the vanity mirrors. Some rooms have heated towel racks and bathrobes are supplied. The king-size beds are often two singles pushed together -- a gripe for some. For guests who suffer from allergies, the Kaiserhof Wien offers special allergen-free rooms. Rooms on the ground floor lack views.

Features

Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, and a tiny gym

With six conference rooms, a small gym, and a hearty free breakfast, the Best Western Premier Kaiserhof Wien ticks all the mid-range hotel boxes but lacks a certain upscale polish. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The breakfast menu is accommodating, with gluten- and lactose-free products in the buffet. The spa area is modest and has a decent sauna.
