Das Capri. Ihr Wiener Hotel

Housed in a plain-looking 1960s building with an uninspiring facade, Das Capri doesn't particularly impress from the get-go. Inside, however, is a different story. The hotel lobby has benefited from a 2014 renovation, and is smartly finished in muted greens and grays with a curving, brushed-steel reception desk and chrome hanging ceiling lamps. What makes this hotel different, however, is the Viennese tales theme in which each of the seven floors tells a story about the Austrian capital through words and photos that were taken exclusively for the hotel. 

The hotel is located on a busy, tree-lined street in a residential area outside central Vienna.The Nestroyplatz subway stop is opposite from the hotel, which is two stops from Saint Stephen's Cathedral in the city center. The Prater Amusement Park, with it's landmark Ferris wheel and seasonal markets, is a 10-minute walk from the Capri, while the "Bermuda Triangle" nightlight and entertainment district is across the Danube Canal. Vienna International Airport is about 25 minutes away by cab. Airport buses are within a five-minute walk of the hotel.

The hotel has 73 rooms, all decorated in a fresh, contemporary style with literary quotations and photographs relating to tales of  Vienna. Furnishings are simple and modern, while large windows overlook a busy tree-lined street or a quiet courtyard. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs with more than 100 HD channels. Bathrooms are equally smart, with stand-in showers or shower/tub combos, eco-friendly toiletries, and hairdryers. Many rooms open onto small, furnished balconies, while those on the seventh floor have cityscape views and, on clear days, the distant mountains. The Family Suite includes two bedrooms with a separate lounge, and a balcony that overlooks a quiet courtyard.

Breakfast is a highlight here, and offers an extensive buffet selection -- with free-range eggs and Viennese specialties -- all included in the room rate. There's also a small lobby bar with an Internet corner, and Wi-Fi is free of charge throughout the property.
