Especially popular among
business travelers, this 686-room, upper-middle-range Hyatt has plenty of meeting space and a great
location near Reagan National Airport and Washington, D.C. Highlights include a
full-service restaurant, lounge bar, and heated outdoor pool. Rooms are modern but not stylish. Travelers should
also consider Hampton Inn & Suites Reagan National Airport, three blocks
north, which has more in-room amenities, free breakfasts, and a better location
near the subway.
Scene
Large corporate hotel near the airport
Built
in the mid-'80s, this Hyatt Regency has been well maintained and feels
relatively new. A multi-level, atrium-style lobby with shiny tile floors give
the property a distinctly corporate vibe. The lowest level is filled with
ballrooms and function spaces, while the main level houses a gift shop,
check-in counters, and a moderately chic lounge bar (which includes a coffee
bar). Upstairs is a casual restaurant,
Cinnabar, which offers a breakfast buffet (charges apply) and American cuisine
for lunch and dinner. A modest outdoor pool and hot tub are located on a third
floor terrace, but the hotel doesn’t have much of a “pool scene.”The
clientele here is primarily business travelers and convention-goers. Despite
being a large corporate hotel, this Hyatt participates in a few local
initiatives worth noting. Much of the art in the public spaces was purchased
from area artists, and the restaurant grows its own tomatoes in the summer. All
of the hotel’s eggs come from cage-free chickens, and locally grown produce is
purchased whenever possible. Many of
the employees have been working here for decades, with the average tenure being
15 years.
Location
Convenient location in Arlington, 10 minutes outside Washington, D.C.
This Hyatt Regency is
located right off Route 1 (also called Jefferson Davis Highway), a busy
thoroughfare frequented by Virginia commuters. The immediate neighborhood is dominated
by hotels, apartment complexes, and office buildings. An underground shopping
mall, Crystal City Shops, offers plenty of stores and restaurants just up the
street. A
bike share kiosk is next to hotel, and a nearby trail runs along the river. Downtown
D.C. is about 20 minutes away by subway or 10 minutes away by car. The hotel offers
a free shuttle to the nearest subway (less than a mile away) and to Reagan
Airport.- 14-minute walk to CrystalCity Metro Station (Yellow and Blue lines)
Rooms
Modern and simple with coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and iPod stereos
The rooms are modern and
sparse, with a somewhat drab color palette of gray, black, and brown. Abstract art prints add an
occasional splash of color. Each room has a
workspace, flat-screen TV, iHome stereo, coffeemaker, and free Wi-Fi. Mini-fridges
can be requested for an extra fee. The standard bathrooms are slick and
compact, with frosted glass doors. Guests can upgrade to a Deluxe Room, which features
more space, or an Ambassador Suite with a sitting area, free daily bottled
water, and private balcony. Hypoallergenic rooms are available, as well as
women’s floor rooms.
