Bottom Line

Especially popular among business travelers, this 686-room, upper-middle-range Hyatt has plenty of meeting space and a great location near Reagan National Airport and Washington, D.C. Highlights include a full-service restaurant, lounge bar, and heated outdoor pool. Rooms are modern but not stylish. Travelers should also consider Hampton Inn & Suites Reagan National Airport, three blocks north, which has more in-room amenities, free breakfasts, and a better location near the subway.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport

Scene

Large corporate hotel near the airport

Built in the mid-'80s, this Hyatt Regency has been well maintained and feels relatively new. A multi-level, atrium-style lobby with shiny tile floors give the property a distinctly corporate vibe. The lowest level is filled with ballrooms and function spaces, while the main level houses a gift shop, check-in counters, and a moderately chic lounge bar (which includes a coffee bar). Upstairs is a casual restaurant, Cinnabar, which offers a breakfast buffet (charges apply) and American cuisine for lunch and dinner. A modest outdoor pool and hot tub are located on a third floor terrace, but the hotel doesn’t have much of a “pool scene.”

The clientele here is primarily business travelers and convention-goers. Despite being a large corporate hotel, this Hyatt participates in a few local initiatives worth noting. Much of the art in the public spaces was purchased from area artists, and the restaurant grows its own tomatoes in the summer. All of the hotel’s eggs come from cage-free chickens, and locally grown produce is purchased whenever possible. Many of the employees have been working here for decades, with the average tenure being 15 years.
