Bottom Line

The 155-room Days Inn Washington, DC - Connecticut Ave. is a no-frills, budget hotel with some of the lowest rates in D.C. While it isn't fancy or centrally located, it's a popular pick for international business travelers, as a dozen embassies are within walking distance. Budget travelers may also be drawn here for the prices, but downtown attractions are a 20-minute subway commute away. This property is home to an adjoining Italian restaurant and bar, plus an on-site business center and meeting space. Rooms are pleasant with sunny yellow walls, big flat-screen TVs, and basic coffeemakers. For a slightly pricier option that’s closer to downtown, guests should consider the Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House, which has an outdoor pool and fitness center.

Oyster Hotel Review

Days Inn by Wyndham Washington DC/Connecticut Avenue

Scene

No-frills budget chain hotel

Built in the early 1970s and renovated in 2011, this Days Inn offers clean, affordable rooms and an accessible location on Connecticut Avenue. Beyond that, the hotel is fairly generic and unremarkable. The six-story building has a peach-colored brick exterior and rents space to an Italian restaurant on the first floor. Inside, the narrow lobby features beige walls, matching tile floors, a small gift shop, and a sitting area with a flat-screen TV and electric fireplace. The decor mostly consists of dated leather seating and fake plants, but the artwork on the walls is surprisingly appealing for a budget chain hotel. Large canvases display original paintings that were sourced by the hotel's owner, including a moody portrait of men in cloaks, a Dali-esque blue head propped up by sticks, and a painting of a Native American’s face in a swirl of colors.

Clients tend to be budget-minded tourists and single travelers with business in the area. (There aren’t many competing hotels in the immediate neighborhood.) While the lowest rates here are quite cheap, they vary widely depending on the date. Often, better hotels are available for less, so it’s worth shopping around.

This Days Inn is located two blocks north of the Van Ness metro station in Northwest D.C. It’s right on Connecticut Avenue, a major thoroughfare that runs northwest from the White House into suburban Maryland. A handful of shops, cafes, and a dry-cleaners are right outside the hotel. But major downtown tourist attractions are at least 20 minutes away by subway.

Rooms

Bland rooms with work desks, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs

Rooms at this Days Inn are pleasant and basic. The bedspreads are solid beige; the walls are a nice shade of pale yellow; and the wooden furniture is fairly modern, but a bit boring. (Rooms were updated in 2011.) The artwork consists of mass produced, gold-framed watercolor paintings that depict flowery waterfront scenes. Every room comes with a large flat-screen TV, basic coffeemaker, work desk with ergonomic chair, free Wi-Fi, and a king, queen, or two double beds. Of the hotel’s 155 rooms, 15 are Business Rooms, which are larger and come with microwaves and mini-fridges. (These can be added to regular rooms for a fee.)
