Bottom Line

A couples getaway overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Judith Ann Inn is a two-and-a-half pearl hotel fashioned after a Victorian mansion. Its nine suites combine dated-looking furnishings with a replica Victorian theme that feels more faux than fabulous, but the views from the balconies are the real deal. Full kitchens, fireplaces, and living room whirlpool tubs come standard, but the hotel has no common areas other than a banquet room and adjoining terrace. Travelers might want to also consider the Grey Gull down the street, which tends to have lower rates and adds an outdoor pool.

Judith Ann Inn

Scene

Oceanfront manor with a budget Victorian theme

With a decor inspired by "Gone With the Wind," the Judith Ann Inn aims to create a romantic atmosphere with Victorian touches and ocean views. The white columns and grand balconies check a few boxes, but it has a bit of 1990s McMansion in its blueprint. There are no common areas other than a terrace in the back that's connected to a banquet room, which is used mainly as a wedding venue. The front of the property faces the parking lot, but views in the back, where the hotel is separated from the beach by dunes and a protected wildlife area, are lovely.

Location

Borders a protected wildlife area overlooking the beach

The hotel is located on the narrow strip of real estate known as Ocean Shores, between the Pacific Ocean and the North Bay. It's surrounded by nature preserves within walking distance to several trails that lead to the beach. Guests can walk to plenty of local dining and entertainment, like the pizzeria and bowling alley at Shores Bowl, along with several bars. Other area attractions include the Ocean Shores Golf Course and Quinault Beach Resort and Casino, both less than a six-minute drive (in opposite directions). Expect close to a two-and-a-half hour drive to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Rooms

Southern Victorian theme with full kitchens and whirlpool tubs

The Judith Ann Inn's nine suites are all decorated in a faux-Victorian theme loosely inspired by the movie "Gone With the Wind." They differ only in color palette and views -- all have balconies or terraces facing either the ocean or the parking lot -- rooms at the back of the property get the ocean views. Solid-colored carpets meet busy wallpaper and dated floral-patterned sofa beds and budget-replica furnishings. All 906-square-foot (or 84-square-meter) suites have fully equipped kitchens with ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, dishwashers, and full-size refrigerators, along with dining tables. Living rooms have gas fireplaces and in-room whirlpool tubs, along with entertainment systems. Flat-screen TVs vary in size from 42 to 50 inches, and come with free HBO. Some room areas need repainting and minor repairs. Bathrooms have slab-marble vanities, hairdryers, toiletries, and large walk-in showers.

Free parking and Wi-Fi are also included in the room rate.
