Bottom Line

Attitash Mountain Village is a mid-range property consisting of independently-owned accommodations which the owners rent out when they're not using them, similar to a timeshare. As a result, each room, suite, or townhouse is completely different from the next in terms of decor and layout. Some rooms are in great condition, while others could use upgrades. Full kitchens, washers and dryers, and private balconies are available in some units, but are not standard. The on-site restaurant, Matty B's, gets mixed reviews. Features are of the après-ski variety, as most guests visit the property for fast access to skiing and hiking in the White Mountains. There's a dry sauna along with indoor and outdoor hot tubs and pools for soaking sore muscles. Free Wi-Fi and parking are nice perks.

Attitash Mountain Village

Scene

Family-friendly in the mountains

The guests at Attitash Mountain Village are mostly made up of outdoorsy families and groups who want to take advantage of full kitchens and laundry facilities while on ski trips. The rooms are spread out on a wooded property overlooking the White Mountains, and some accommodations have trail access. The front desk, the units, and other amenities like the fitness center and the sauna, are all in separate buildings, which can be a hassle to get to. The signage, however, is clear, and because the buildings are set back from the road, there isn't a lot of traffic or noise. The lobby includes a wooden reception desk and a few overstuffed armchairs, and skylights keep the space bright. Pinecone-shaped lamps and an old-fashioned stove give the space a lodge vibe. Decor in other common areas, like the game room, is less attractive, with lots of wood paneling, dark couches, and carpeting.

Location

Wedged between the Saco River and Attitash Mountain, with ski trails within walking distance

Attitash Mountain Village is located on a wooded property with direct access to the Saco River Trail, and surrounded by mountains. In the winter, Attitash Mountain Resort is a prime skiing destination. The trails are less than a ten-minute walk away via a pedestrian tunnel from the hotel. In the summer, the area has a water park, zip-lining, and mountain biking, while the Saco River offers kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and fishing. Shopping at Settlers' Green Outlet is also a short drive from the hotel, as is Story Land theme park.

Rooms

A grab bag of rooms, suites, and townhouses with a huge range of amenities, decor, and prices

There are over 350 completely different rooms, suites, and townhouses ranging from budget to luxury, at Attitash Mountain Village. Further, the hotel doesn't guarantee that guests will get the exact room they booked on arrival, as owners have up-to-the-last-minute rights on staying in their own space. All units are condo-style with kitchen and dining areas. Units of varying sizes are available in three levels: standard, deluxe, and slopeside. One of the deluxe studio suites, for example, comes with a washer and dryer, and a gas fireplace, and a private balcony overlooking the wooded grounds. The decor is average with a beige color palette, and the bathroom is of a standard size with shower/tub combination. The stainless steel appliances, however, are a nice touch in the full kitchen. In contrast, a one-bedroom suite might offer more square footage, but look dated with maroon curtains and paint, ugly couches, and floral fabrics. A jetted tub is a few feet away from the bed in the master bedroom, while the kitchen appliances are standard white, and a Murphy bed is in the downstairs living room. That's not to say that those are representative of similar-sized units -- every unit varies in decor and features.

Features

Swimming pools, hot tubs, and a seasonal skating rink

The on-site restaurant, Matty B's, gets mixed reviews for food, but high marks for the bar. There are several restaurants and bars within walking distance of Attitash Mountain Village. The hotel's features cater to guests coming back from a day on the slopes, but can be enjoyed year round.

The property offers a wooden sauna, outdoor hot tub, and an indoor hot tub -- though these tend to get pretty crowded given the size of the property. The outdoor pool and indoor pool are both sizable. In the winter, an outdoor skating rink is a fun bonus. Tennis courts, a video arcade, and a ping-pong table add extra entertainment, while practical features include coin-operated laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi (sometimes spotty), and free parking.
