Bottom Line

Mt. Coolidge Motel is a budget property reminiscent of roadside mom-and-pop hotels from a bygone era. The property is located between Route 3 and the Pemigewasset River, making it both convenient and picturesque. There aren't many amenities other than an outdoor swimming pool and free coffee in the morning, and rooms are extremely dated; picture pink-tiled bathrooms and floral bedspreads. Rooms are spacious, however, and units enjoy awesome views of the Pemigewasset River in back of the hotel. There are also chairs and a small fire pit for relaxing, and parking and Wi-Fi are free. The family-owned motel makes a clean and comfortable (and basic) base from which to explore the area, and is a good value for the price.

Mt. Coolidge Motel

Scene

Quiet and family-friendly roadside motel

The office of Mt. Coolidge Motel is inside a traditional New England-style house with a covered front porch and black window shutters. Rocking chairs and potted geraniums make it feel welcoming and quaint. A small wooden reception desk and area are decorated with patriotic touches, and brochures about the area. Free coffee and tea are served here every morning. Rooms are laid out in a strip around the perimeter of the neatly-landscaped front lawn, and there are a couple cottages that line the back of the property, too. The Pemigewasset River meanders through behind the motel. There's a small fire pit and a few chairs where guests can linger. The scene is quiet. The sound of the flowing river can be heard from most of the units when the windows are open, and mountains are visible in the distance from the hotel's front office.

Location

Located between Route 3 and the Pemigewasset River, and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery

The motel is conveniently located on Route 3, and is just three miles to Franconia Notch State Park. The park is located in White Mountain National Forest, and is the sight of the scenic Flume Gorge, and the Old Man of the Mountain memorial. The park is home to lakes good for fishing, and tons of hiking, biking and ski trails. Coolidge Motel is also within walking distance of Whale's Tale Water Park. Nearby Woodstock has a plethora of charming shops and tourist-friendly restaurants. There are several other motels, hotels, and restaurants within the immediate surrounding area.

Rooms

Spacious rooms and private cottages are a bit dated, but clean.

There are 18 motel rooms and two private cottages at Mt. Coolidge Hotel. Rooms are spacious, and each includes one or two queen-sized beds, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TV. The decor, which consists of floral bedspreads and striped white wallpaper, is not super appealing, but rooms are clean and functional. Those facing the river have the best views, and a natural white noise machine, if the windows are left open. The two cottages each sleep up to five people, and have covered front porches furnished with plastic chairs and a table. Shower/tub combinations are standard, and pink bathroom fixtures are from another era, but like the rest of the hotel, they are clean and well-maintained.
