Bottom Line

Composed of five buildings, the Grand Canyon Inn claims to be the only place to stay within a 30-mile radius of the tiny town of Valle, a half-hour drive from the Grand Canyon. The 72 rooms are spacious and reportedly clean, although there have been complaints of dated linens and sagging beds. Features include a seasonal pool and a kids' pool and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Oyster Hotel Review

Grand Canyon Inn

Scene

Basic but functional hotel with a Southwestern theme throughout

The two-story Grand Canyon Inn is a typical roadside hotel with plain exteriors and eclectic Southwest-meets-Route 66 interiors. The small lobby features some Grand Canyon photographs and a charming lounge with an old-time, Western look. Out back is a bare pool deck area with a small amoeba-shaped pool and an even smaller kids' pool. The restaurant and bar are located in their own separate building and also follow a Western decor theme. The bar is saloon style, decked out with wood panels and earth tones, while the restaurant portion is decorated with feathers and faux taxidermy.

Location

In the town of Valle, half an hour south of Grand Canyon National Park

The Grand Canyon Inn is surrounded by a few other businesses owned by the same family who own the hotel, including two gas stations, a rock shop, and a gift shop. It's about 30 minutes to the Grand Canyon and to Williams, and about 45 minutes to Flagstaff. Other nearby attractions include the Planes of Fame Air Museum, a 10-minute walk down the road, and Flintstones Bedrock City, across the road. Dining options are also limited, and are mostly found in the town of Williams, which is a 30-minute drive south.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with mini-fridges and oftentimes faulty air-conditioners and heaters

The hotel has 72 rooms spread over two floors, but only Double Queen Rooms are available during the winter low-season. Rooms with king beds are also available in warmer months. Rooms are generic and dated, with worn, vaguely Southwestern decor and shabby carpets. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, heaters, and air-conditioners, though there have been complaints of leaky, loud air-conditioning units and faulty heaters. Bathrooms are narrow and have shower/tub combos and separate sink and vanity areas in the main room areas.

Features

Seasonal outdoor pool, saloon-style lounge, and full-service restaurant

The inn offers free parking, free Wi-Fi, and a convenience store selling souvenirs. There's also a pool and a kids' pool, although both are only open in the summer months. The hotel also has a full-service restaurant and lounge, housed in a separate building. The lounge has the look and feel of an old-time saloon setup, while the restaurant feels more generic and has cafeteria-style chairs and tables.
