Bottom Line

This sprawling time-share resort is located 10 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. Highlights include spacious indoor and outdoor pools, sports courts, an on-site spa (by appointment only), and plenty of perks for kids.  Unlike many competing resorts, Williamsburg Plantation serves no food.  For on-site restaurants and ritzier amenities consider the riverfront Kingsmill Resort, nine miles away.

Scene

Family-friendly time-share resort with indoor and outdoor pools

Built in the early 2000s, this gated community is a maze of two-story apartment buildings with 303 well-maintained time-share suites and a host of resort-style amenities. Family-friendly perks include a spacious outdoor pool with a kiddy pool and neighboring playground, an indoor lap pool with a hot tub, and multiple sports courts. The grounds are charming but lack the grandiose landscaping of some other resorts in the area. The hotel artwork is mostly generic and some of the furniture could use updating, but rooms are cozy overall. The resort has no on-site dining, but dozens of restaurants and a grocery store are less than five minutes away by car. Be prepared for a pushy sales pitch for a time-share.

  • 12-minute drive to historic Jamestown
  • 16-minute drive from Busch Gardens theme park
  • 26-minute drive from historic Yorktown

Rooms

Spacious apartment-style suites with up to four bedrooms

Decor-wise, the apartment-style suites at Williamsburg Plantation are run-of-the-mill, but generally attractive, with generic furniture, fake plants, and artwork of botanical images and landscapes. Some of the wooden furniture could use updating, but the rooms are clean and well-maintained overall. Every suite comes with a fully equipped kitchen, except for one-bedroom units, which only have kitchenettes. The largest four-bedroom suites can sleep up to 12 people, with two king beds, two queen beds (or four twin beds), and two queen sleeper sofas. All units have fireplaces, jetted tubs, DVD players, and furnished balconies or patios.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, weekly activities, and solid amenities

Williamsburg Plantation offers a solid array of amenities, including an indoor lap pool with hot tub, spacious outdoor pool, barbecue grills, and a horseshoe pit. A kiddy pool, playground, and game room provide entertainment for kids, while adults can take advantage of a fitness center and spa (by appointment only) that offers massages, waxes, facials, manicures, and pedicures. Sports facilities include tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, and a nature trail is open seasonally. Other perks include a computer center, free DVD rentals, concierge services, and weekly paid activities such as local tours and chocolate-tasting workshops. Wi-Fi requires a daily fee.
