Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Delton Grand Resort & Spa is a modern, residential-style complex directly on the shores of Lake Delton. It’s not within walking distance to downtown Wisconsin Dells, but many of the area’s attractions are only a short drive away. The 55 one- to four-bedroom condos are clean and spacious, with full kitchens, nice bathrooms, and private decks or patios. Some have fun yet tastefully executed themes, such as "Hollywood" and "London." Several attractive amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, a whirlpool hot tub, and a full-service spa. Guests also receive free Wi-Fi and free passes to a local water park. Rates are competitive for a hotel of this category, but travelers looking for something more budget-friendly may want to consider the lower-middle-range Baker’s Sunset Bay Resort instead.

Delton Grand Resort & Spa

Scene

Quiet, family-oriented resort with a gathering area right on the lake

This quiet, family-oriented resort takes full advantage of its setting on the shores of lovely Lake Delton. The resort resembles an apartment complex, with three buildings clustered around common spaces. The back of the spa building has hardscaping that gently slopes down to a small beach and pier. A patio with gas grills plus two fire pits and an outdoor pool are also right on the lake. With no restaurant, the patio area tends to be the only real center of activity, and while the modest office has a comfy sofa and a few tourist brochures, it’s really just a place to check in and out.

Location

In a serene setting on Lake Delton, about eight minutes south of downtown Wisconsin Dells

The Delton Grand Resort features a quiet setting directly on the shores of lovely Lake Delton, about an eight-minute drive from downtown Wisconsin Dells. There are a few other condo resorts in the immediate area, but the closest restaurants are 11 minutes away on foot or two minutes by car. The Noah’s Ark water park and Mt. Olympus theme/water park are about a four-minute drive away, and the Dells of the Wisconsin River State Natural Area is a 14-minute drive.

Rooms

Quiet, individually decorated units with full kitchens, nice bathrooms, and private decks/patios

The condos at the Delton are spacious and comfortable, ranging from one-bedroom units (900 square feet/274 square meters) to four-bedroom (3,700 square feet/1,128 square meters) with two full bathrooms. Larger condos usually have washer/dryers.

Units are individually owned, so furnishings and decorative elements tend to  vary, but guests can generally expect to see tasteful and homey decor dominated by earth tones. Most units have carpet in the living rooms and bedrooms, but some have hardwood floors. Highlights include TVs in both bedrooms and living rooms, gas fireplaces, and private patios, many with lake views. Kitchens are outfitted with full-size fridges, dishwashers, and stoves, and most have bars with stools and granite or Formica counters. Bathrooms are typically spacious, with roomy walk-in showers with glass doors, and some add separate soaking tubs.

The condos in one of the lakefront buildings have individual themes; for example, the London unit features an iconic red telephone booth, a huge mural depicting a traditional fox hunt, and a whirlpool tub outside the bathroom.

Overall, the condos are clean and well maintained, but some past guests have reported minor housekeeping issues such as excessive cobwebs, stained carpeting, and dust. Note that daily housekeeping costs extra.

Features

Heated indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool, sauna, beach, spa, free parking, and free Wi-Fi

This residential-style lakefront condo-resort offers many amenities, but it lacks food or beverage service. Large gas grills are available on a nice patio overlooking the lake, and there are fire pits and a seasonal heated outdoor pool, also with lake views. The heated indoor pool area has plenty of tables and chairs, as well as a sauna, a whirlpool, a spa with massages, and a single exercise bicycle. There's also a small, sandy beach on the lake directly behind the complex plus a boat dock for guest use. Free parking is available in an underground garage and some of the units have their own attached two-car garages. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, guests receive free passes to the nearby Noah’s Ark water park, one for each day they stay. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel and pets are welcome in select condos. Guest laundry facilities are on site for those condos without washer/dryers.
