The Ramada Wisconsin Dells is a two-pearl hotel with a heated indoor pool and hot tub that's geared toward budget travelers. It also caters a bit to business travelers with rooms that have work desks, ergonomic roller chairs, and microwaves, and the hotel also has a meeting room and a business center. It's pretty far from the main attractions in the downtown area, but within walking distance to the Kalahari Resort which has its own water park. It's worth comparing rates at the Holiday Inn Express Wisconsin Dells right next door too.
Scene
Two-pearl hotel with dark interiors
The Ramada is a fairly straightforward two-pearl hotel on paper, but the dim lighting and dark color palette could use updating, and detracts from an otherwise solid budget option outside the downtown area. The lobby is dark and unwelcoming, and the hallways are narrow with low drop-ceilings make them a little claustrophobic. Carpets throughout feel dusty and the whole property is poorly lit. We found that the lobby smelled a little bit like chlorine, probably wafting in from the adjacent indoor pool.
Location
Outside downtown along Highway 12
The hotel is located on a frontage road alongside Highway 12, making it easy to reach, but there's not much within walking distance aside from the water park at the nearby Kalahari Resort and a movie theater. Dining options nearby consist of a joint called Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que and several fast food chains. Noah's Ark water park is about a seven-minute drive north, toward downtown (which is about 12-minutes away). Nature spots, including Mirror Lake State Park and Lake Delton, are also within a few minutes' drive.
Rooms
Casual rooms with work desks, ergonomic chairs, and microwaves
The hotel has 71 rooms and suites that come in a large variety of categories, but the decor throughout is a somewhat dull mix of old artwork and dated fabrics, with some contemporary updates in the form of black wood laminate headboard, desks, and credenzas. The walls are thin and we easily heard noises from the hallways. Standard Rooms have one king-size or two queen-size beds, and narrow sitting areas with an armchair, along with work desks and ergonomic roller chairs. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and microwaves are standard, along with mini-fridges and coffeemakers. Some rooms have sofa beds and there are larger Family Suites with two bedrooms separated by the bathroom. Upgraded suites add in-room whirlpool tubs. The bathrooms have either average shower/tub combos or small walk-in showers.
Features
Indoor pool, sauna, fitness room, business center, and free breakfast
The hotel has a free, but limited continental breakfast served in a small breakfast room with a few tables. A small mini-mart occupies one side of the room, but its shelves and walls are sparsely stocked. A lofty wood-paneled room with a vaulted ceiling houses the heated indoor pool and a hot tub. Aside from the small business center, there's a separate room with three more computers for guests to use. There's also a meeting room and a small 24-hour fitness room with a few cardio machines and free weights.
