Raven Hall Hotel

Raven Hall Hotel is a clifftop mansion that dates back to 1774 when it was built on top of historic Roman battlements by a captain in the the cavalry regiment of the British Army. The four-story, 52-room hotel is situated on 100 acres of beautiful grounds with sweeping, panoramic views of the surrounding Yorkshire Moors and Robin Hood's Bay. The extensive grounds have lovely terraced gardens, immaculately maintained green lawns, and charming paths and corners surrounded by the remnants of an ancient Roman fort. Breathtaking views lurk beyond every corner, and there are several benches and picnic tables scattered throughout the property with scenic views.

The front entrance leads into a hallway and lobby covered in floral printed carpet in green and peach shades that permeates throughout the ground floor. The carpet, though dated, pairs well with the peach walls and walnut wainscoting of the common areas that are filled with dark leather armchairs and wooden furniture. The spaces are elegant and cozy, illuminated by large windows and bedecked in warm peach and brown hues, with plenty of corners to curl up in front of a fireplace. This color palette and decor extends to the hotel's Panorama Restaurant, a sunlit space with large windows overlooking the grounds, sprawling countryside, and sea. 

The remote location of the property suits travelers seeking a peaceful rural retreat. The hotel is also ideally situated for walking holidays, as the Cleveland Way trail passes through the property. Raven Hall is a popular venue for weddings, conferences, and various events as well.

The hotel is situated on 100 acres of beautiful grounds in the middle of the North York Moors National Park. Set on a cliff 600 feet above sea level, the property overlooks the sea and Robin Hood's Bay. The location of the hotel is remote, as it is more than 10 miles to the nearest major towns of Whitby (a 24-minute drive), and Scarborough (a 22-minute drive). There is a bus stop a three-minute walk from the hotel that goes to Scarborough. The North York Moors National Park is highly regarded by those who enjoy nature walks and exploring the English outdoors, and there's plenty of trails nearby, including the Cleveland Way, a 110-mile hiking trail that passes through the hotel grounds.

The hotel rooms are spacious and tastefully appointed with Scandinavian inspired decor and a palette of crimson, white, and gold colors paired with blonde wood furniture. Red curtains frame large windows, many of which overlook the bay. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea- making facilities, and spacious wardrobes and vanities. The bathrooms can be a bit of a tight squeeze, but are clean and pleasant, with shower/tub combos, fluffy towels, and a range of toiletries. 

Besides the 52 guest rooms, there are also eight sustainable Finnish lodges situated 500 feet away from the main building. The lodges are eco-friendly and assist in the reduction of carbon dioxide with water-recycling systems and are decorated in a clean and crisp Scandinavian style. All have lovely porches with beautiful views of the grounds and bay, as well as fully-equipped kitchenettes, wood-burning stoves, and modern comforts including flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi.

The Raven Hall Hotel has beautiful, extensive grounds that include a nine-hole golf course with a putting green built into the cliffside, as well as two tennis courts, a croquet lawn, and lovely heated indoor pool with a sauna. The hotel has several common areas, including lounges with fireplaces and a game room with a pool table, Ping-Pong, and foosball table. There are several elegant meeting rooms and event spaces that can accommodate up to 100 people, as well as an on-site chapel. The Panorama Restaurant serves seasonal, locally-sourced foods in a sunlit space with sweeping views of the grounds and bay. Breakfast and dinner are included in the room rates. Freebies include parking and Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (though service can be spotty).
